Former WBO Boxing Champion DeMarcus Corley Knocked Out In Nicaragua

Coming off a loss to England’s Junior Witter for the WBC Light Welter title last September, ex-WBO world titlist DeMarcus Corley went to Casino Pharos in Managua, Nicaragua last night to keep busy against local man Jose Alfaro.

But the fight was made at 135 lb and that weight loss coupled with the massive punching power of Alfaro proved to be disastrous for “Chop Chop”.

Things started well for Corley as the Washington DC native nailed Alfaro and dropped the Nicaraguan to the canvas but could not finish his opponent off.

As the rounds wore on, the youth of the 23 year old Alfaro proved to be a factor as the local man attacked the body of Corley with seemingly endless energy.

In the sixth, Alfaro dropped the ex-world champion with a shivering shot to the liver as the strongly partisan crowd roared on in approval.

Alfaro lost a point in the seventh for low blows but Nicaraguan pressed on with full force in the eighth and again floored Corley, causing a stoppage at 0:48 of the round.

Alfaro improves to 18-3 (17) with his fourth consecutive victory while Corley drops to 31-6-1 (17).

Also on the bill, Argentina’s Israel Hector Enrique Perez, 20-2 (12), dropped Rene Gonzalez, 15-1 (10), of Managua, in the first, third and fifth rounds to win a WBA Super Feather title eliminator by majority decision.
