Welterweight boxer Aaron Thomas will appear at Old Trafford on 31st March on an SMP promoted card. The Chris Sanigar managed Thomas will be seeking to secure his fourth consecutive victory since turning professional last September.
Thomas last turned out at Fenton Manor Sports Complex in Stoke earlier this month when he successfully managed to overcome the tricky Surinder Sekhon; securing a four round points win over the Barnsley man.
The significantly more experienced David Wakefield will be Aaron’s opponent on the evening. Wakefield has emerged victorious in 5 of his 15 pro starts, with 2 draws and 8 losses making up the remainder of his tally. Four of Wakefield’s victories have come in his six most recent contests although he lost last time out to former British title contender Kevin McIntyre.
Naturally heavier and taller than Thomas, Wakefield will provide stiff competition for the former Welsh ABA champion who will need to be on top form if he is to extend his winning streak.
“It will be less than three weeks since I last fought,” said Thomas, “but I want to keep as busy as possible. I am still learning the professional game and I want to get as much experience as I can as quickly as I can. I am fit and I came through my last bout with Surinder Sekhon without any injuries so fighting again so soon should ensure that I am sharp.”
“I don’t know much about David Wakefield but his record suggests that he’s improving and he’s only been stopped once so I don’t expect to get everything my own way. I wont do anything different against him though; I will just deal with him in my normal fashion. I expect to beat him though and I am looking forward to a good tussle.”
