Boxing Preview: Arthur Abraham – Sebastien Demers

Arthur Abraham puts his IBF Middleweight title at risk by facing Sebastien Demers tonight in at the Jako Arena in Bamberg, Germany.

This will be Abraham’s first time back in the ring following his tremendous firefight with Edison Miranda last September, in which the IBF Champion was victorious but suffered two fractures to the jaw in the process.

Demers, 20-0 (9), comes from Montreal and is a former Quebec and Canadian Light Middleweight titlist. The 27 year old coming off two consecutive wins over Ian MacKillop, the first of which earned “Double Trouble” the IBF International Middleweight belt in November of last year.

Abraham, 22-0 (17), is a former hot prospect knockout artist that went from contender to champion with a stoppage of the highly regarded Kingsley Ikeke in December of 2005.

Since that time the Armenian born German has been taken the distance in all three of his title defenses.

This bout will represent a big step up in quality of opposition for Demers and the Montreal man has never fought outside of Quebec.

Demers, not a big puncher, must use the ring wisely if he is to pull off a big upset and take the IBF crown from Abraham. Given the nature of his fight with Miranda last year, Abraham may not be ready to put his usual full bore pressure on the opponent and if so, Demers may get a chance to outbox his more experienced foe.

But Abraham could also look to make a statement to future challengers to his throne and if that happens, Demers will likely absorb his first loss as a professional.
