The weigh-in for the vacant Commonwealth light welterweight title took place at Frank Maloney’s South London Fitness Academy yesterday afternoon.
Only one pound separated the principals when they stepped on the scales amid the buzzing atmosphere today as Stoke on Trent resident Gary Reid came in at 140 lbs to Ajose Olusegun’s 139 lbs.
In the past week Reid’s team have said they had “come up with a strategy that we feel will exploit the weaknesses that we have identified in his [Olusegun’s] game” and Reid elaborated further today when he said:
“I will do my talking in the ring but I have been practicing my body punches. I plan to break him down with body punches”
“Tomorrow we will see,” the smiling, and still unbeaten Olusegun said.
Friday’s principal support bout sees the return of the sublime Tshifhiwa Munyai, the Commonwealth bantamweight champion who weighed in at 125 lbs to Harry Ramogoadi’s 126.
