Danish super featherweight prospect Kim “Golden Boy” Poulsen (4-1, 1 KO) rounds off the season on July 6, when he fights an opponent yet to be determined at the Mehrzweckhalle in Berlin, Germany on a show promoted by Fight Night Events.

This was announced today by manager Henrik Risum, who is happy that Poulsen will have one more bout before taking a well-deserved vacation in Turkey later that month:

“Kim has worked very hard the last year now, so when he agreed to one more fight before taking a rest, it was just another example of how dedicated and serious he is. So, obviously I am happy that we have now secured this date for him,” says Risum.

Poulsen, who has been in the gym with trainer Brian Mathiasen since his last bout on May 12, when he beat Czech Josef Holub, will start sparring this week, and will have the benefit of doing the rounds with comebacking former European and world title-challenger Allan Vester, who is himself set to return in the early fall.

“Its great to have Allan in the gym with us, and he is so crafty and experienced that I am learning immensely by sparring him. We measure up well against each other, so I hope I will also be of help to him now that he is fighting soon too. I am looking forward to hopefully adding another victory to my record on July 6, and then go on vacation with a good feeling,” says Poulsen.

Risum reveals that Tony Jourda, the Frenchman who got a very questionable victory over Poulsen this past April, would be the preferred opponent for Poulsen in Berlin, but that a rule within the French boxing federation prevents their licensees from boxing abroad if they lost their last bout, and Jourda recently lost a close decision to Paul Halpin (13-1-1) in London.

“We want Jourda again as soon as possible, but when it comes down to it, maybe it is for the best that it wont be this time. Even though Kim deserved to win the first fight, it also showed his inexperience, so a few more less demanding fights will do him good. Jourda is a tough nut to crack,” finishes Risum.

If all goes according to plans, Fawaz Nasir (11-1, 6 KOs) will also fight in July, and Risum Boxing hope to have the date ready and confirmed soon. A move up to super middleweight could be in the pipeline for the former WBO Intercontinental title-challenger, who is pushing himself to make middleweight.
