CES Boxing: True Contender Manfredo In Action This Wednesday

ByBoxing Press 18/06/2007

When the “The Pride of Providence” Peter Manfredo, Jr. enters the ring Wednesday night to headline the “Cha-Ching In The Ring” show, it’ll mark his third fight within a 74-day period, an unheard of schedule today for a top 15 contender.

Manfredo (27-4, 13 KOs), rated No. 14 by the IBF, lost by controversial stoppage in the third round to WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe in Wales on April 7.

Peter bounced back on May 11, registering a ninth-round TKO against veteran Ted Muller in Rhode Island.

The Contender I television reality show star Manfredo headlines “Cha-Ching In The Ring” against upset specialist David Banks (14-1-1, 2 KOs), who is coming off impressive back-to-back wins against previously unbeaten Elvin Ayala.

“I’m back again,” Manfredo said. “These are the steps I have to take to become a world champion. When you don’t get a chance to fight, or lose, you have to start all over again to get back there. We’re fighters; this is what we do. I want to stay busy. The guy I’d love to fight is Jeff Lacy.”

“Cha-Ching In The Ring,” promoted by Jimmy Burchfield’s Classic Entertainment & Sports, Inc. (CES), in association with Foxwoods Resort Casino and ESPN, will be broadcast on ESPN2 Wednesday Night Fights from Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut.

IWBF lightweight champion Jaime “Hurricane” Clampitt and women’s boxing pioneer Jane “Fleetwood Assassin” Couch will finally have a rematch to their The Ring’s 2004 “Female Fight of the Year,” which Couch won via a very close unanimous decision (96-95, 96-94, 96-94) for the IWBF and NABA light welterweight titles.

Clampitt-Couch is the 10-round co-feature for the vacant IWBF junior welterweight title. Clampitt (17-4-1, 7 KOs), a three-time world champion, is coming off of a dominating victory by unanimous 10-round decision against Mia St. John on February 9. Couch (28-9, 9 KOs), representing her native England, is a 5-time world champion.

Nine-time US National amateur champion Aaron Williams makes his CES debut in a six-round Special Cruiserweight Attraction fight against DeLeon Tinsley (7-1-1, 5 KOs). Williams’ original opponent, Derrick “D-Train” Brown, pulled out of the fight last week.

Unbeaten light heavyweight Jarrod Tillinghast (8-0, 2 KOs) faces Santiago Hilario in a six-round bout. Also fighting on the undercard in four-round matches are undefeated super middleweight Angel Camacho, Jr. (6-0, 4 KOs) versus John Terry (2-5, 1 KO), exciting Philadelphia light welterweight “Hammerin'” Hank Lundy (6-0) takes on an opponent to be determined.

CES’ newest member junior middleweight “Irish” Gerry Grealish (6-0, 4 KOs), who fought on the U.S. Marines Boxing Team and is a Boston firefighter, takes on Damon Antoine. Grealish is a native of Galway, Ireland who lives in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Off of her first pro win, Hartford light welterweight Addy Irizarry, a Connecticut prison guard, meets Domesha Allen (0-2). All fighters and bouts are subject to change.

Tickets, priced at $55.00, $110.00, $160.00, are on sale by contacting CES (1.401.724.2253/www.cesboxing.com) or Foxwoods (1.800.200.2882/www.foxwoods.com).

One VIP suite is also available (call CES for details). Sponsorships are available and $2.00 from each sold ticket will go to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
