Risum Boxing went 3-0 on a show promoted by Ashira Oure Promotions, owned by former two-time world title challenger and current light middleweight contender Evans “The African Warrior” Ashira, when David Kiilu, James Kimori and Samson Onyango all won their fights on Saturday afternoon, August 4.
The show was staged at the Pal Pal Gymnasium, a popular venue for small-hall boxing in Kenya’s capital Nairobi, and attracted a decent crowd of boxing fans.
Super featherweight perennial contender David Kiilu boxed a smart fight against Stephen Njunguna, and won all six rounds on his way to a unanimous decision of 60-54 on all cards. Kiilu, who is now 27-8-2 (14), is staying sharp while waiting for his next significant fight in Europe, which is in the works for later this year.
At light middleweight, James Kimori made easy work of Seth Majanga, who was eliminated already in the first round after two counts. “Jesse James” connected at will with rights and lefts, and the fight was stopped when Majanga was staggered and failed to convince the referee that he could continue after his second eight count. Kimori continues to build on his experience in the professional game, and is now 6-0 (4).
Samson Onyango also had an easy night, as he stopped Bob Harrison in the fourth round after a boxing clinic at light heavyweight. Onyango was pitching a shutout when he finished Harrison off with an uppercut followed by several hard body shots in the fourth of this scheduled six-rounder.
He is now 12-1 (9), with the sole defeat coming by very controversial technical decision against Mohammed “Chicken” Orungi last year. After that fight, which most thought Onyango was winning, Orungi has several times pulled out of planned rematches, most recently on fight night, claiming injury, only to box another opponent a few days later.
Also on the card was Ugandan super middleweight Wandera Ouma, who seemed unlucky only to get a draw against Stephen Esonga after four rounds.
