Floyd’s Pace.

Floyd Mayweather, a boxer and fighter who I always will regard as a modern display of fine boxing skills. Here we go again in the business of being fans and watching a fight that a lot of people will deem as no major advancement in the area of competition. Yet we must

deal with the punches and hope for a fight that will turn out better than the early predictions of Mayweather dismantling Henry Bruseles. My mind ponders the logical reason for this fight. Floyd is already an established fighter and famous within the boxing circles. Henry Bruseles is a boxer who only entered the ring with two opponents with over twenty wins: Wilfredo Negron and Ener Julio. Henry Bruseles’ record consists of twenty-one wins, thirteen by way of knockout with two losses and one draw. A fighter with medium power and consistent stamina. Yet he has never faced a quick, defensive, boxer/fighter such as Floyd Mayweather.

Even though I think Floyd is four steps behind understanding his gift of boxing, I do not see Henry Bruseles posing a huge impact upon Floyd’s style. Henry is trained by Evangelista Cotto, the uncle of the rising junior welterweight Miguel Cotto. To prepare for the Mayweather fight, Miguel Cotto sparred some rounds with Henry Bruseles. Boxing fans and experts place this fight as a stepping-stone for Floyd, leading to a mega fight with Arturo Gatti. Could it be a stepping-stone for Miguel Cotto?

Maybe this will be a test for his trainer, not taking anything away from Henry Bruseles, who I am confident in stating is taking this fight seriously. Floyd is in the middle of a very talented division. In between lightweight and welterweight, the junior welterweight division is a melting pot for both Cotto and Mayweather. If both can keep at pace with winning their fights, it’s only proper business that the two will meet. I have been an avid supporter of Floyd stepping up his competition level and will let this Henry Bruseles fight pass, if indeed, the big picture is to fight Arturo and other top-notch fighters in the junior welterweight division.

We all know that Floyd has well above average boxing talent, but what is talent if it’s not used to its highest potential? I see Floyd winning impressively on all three scorecards by decision. Boxing is a sport where anything can happen in any given second. Henry could step up and see a win ahead of him, surprising us all. That’s the addictive trait that hold all of us boxing fans by the brain stem. It’s anybody’s fight once that bell is sounded off.
