Stoke’s English flyweight champion Chris Edwards will take part in Impact Boxing’s next event which is scheduled for 29th September at Fenton Manor Sports Complex. Chris will contest a six round contest which is to be a warm-up prior to his much anticipated third encounter with Huddersfield’s Dale Robinson.
Edwards last boxed in April when he scored a hotly contested draw against Dale Robinson in a British and Commonwealth title clash which has since been nominated as fight of the year by the British Boxing Board of Control. The verdict will be announced at a BBBofC dinner that Edwards will attend in November.
Edwards is contracted to face Robinson again later this year on a Frank Maloney promoted show, the date for which has yet to be confirmed. The contest is likely to be for the British and Commonwealth super-flyweight titles, the weight division having only recently been introduced by the Board.
“I’d hoped to be fighting Dale again in September,” said Edwards today, “but apparently he won’t be ready by then. Hopefully we will meet again in November now. So in the meantime I need to keep sharp and the opportunity to do so in front of my fans in Stoke means a lot to me.”
“I would prefer to be meeting Dale again at flyweight because the higher weight division delivers him an advantage, it’s nearer to his natural weight. However, I’ll be going there to win and whatever weight we box at I’m determined to beat him again and come back home with those titles.”
“That fact that our last bout has been nominated as the fight of the year is a real buzz for me. Everyone’s told me what a great fight and it’s a real honour for me to be invited by the Board to their awards dinner. I think it proves how badly we both want to win and I can promise people it will be the same next time, they can expect another great fight.”
In addition to the Edwards’ bout Impact Boxing will present five more contests and will include the potteries trio of Jimmy “The Whirlwind’ Doherty, Alex Ibbs and debutant Scott Miller together with Chester hot prospects Kevin Buckley and Chris Goodwin.
