Tonight from the Chumash Casino and Resort in Santa Ynez, CA, it’s hard hitting lightweight action topping the bill for this week’s installment of ShoBox: The New Generation.

Antonio DeMarco, 15-1-1 (12), tipped the scales at 136 lb while opponent Nick Casal, 16-1-1 (12), weighed in at 135.5 lb ahead of their scheduled 10 round headlining bout that is expected to produce fireworks for as long as it lasts.

A light middleweight thriller tops the undercard with Alfredo Angulo, 9-0 (6), and Emmanuel Gonzalez, 9-0 (4), both scaling 156 lb ahead of thier bad blood grudge match.

Antonio DeMarco:
“Casal is a strong and tough fighter. I am going to use my height and reach advantage and box. This is a tough fight and a good test for me. This is my most important fight because it is on Showtime and it is my 10-round debut.”

“In my last five fights, I have fought guys who were 10 and 12-round champions. I don’t think about the knockout. I use my ring intelligence and the knockout comes. In my only loss, I didn’t feel right. I was worried about getting my visa and my weight wasn’t right. I was mad at myself.”

Nick Casal:
“I throw a lot of right hands against southpaws. I move to the left and use the hook. Working with a new trainer has been a breath of fresh air and something new. I have been working with my dad since I was three years old. I still talk to him every night.”

“I don’t make any excuses for my loss to Jose Izquierdo. I wasn’t in good enough shape. I don’t think he got the best of me that night, but he won the fight. Izquierdo said that was the hardest he had ever been hit.”

“This is the best training camp we have had. My jab has improved and I am using my feet a little more. Everything is going to come off of the jab. I am taking DeMarco very seriously. He is taller, so I am going to fight inside and stay there. I want to establish myself right off the bat. You have to carry me out on a stretcher to get me out of the ring. I never quit.”

Alfredo Angulo:
“Gonzalez talked a lot of trash before our amateur fight. He said he was going to knock me out. I don’t think I will see much different from him tomorrow, but four years is a long time, so you never know.”

“My style is to come forward intelligently. Of all the great fighters I have sparred with (Antonio Margarito, Roy Jones Jr), it is difficult to say who the best is because each of them has different styles. If I had to pick one, it would be Margarito.”

“I didn’t like boxing when I was a kid. I started when I was 16 years old. I always admired Julio Cesar Chavez.”

Emmanuel Gonzalez:
“Angulo is a tough and strong fighter. I was a baby when I fought him the first time in the amateurs. I will adjust to whatever Angulo throws at me. I have no problem exchanging punches with him. We are going to go to war tomorrow.”

“I idolized Felix Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins growing up. I am a natural right hander, but I can switch to southpaw without a problem. It all depends on my opponent. I like to hit low on the side and move a lot through the fight. If the opportunity comes to exchange punches, I will be ready.”

Chris Billam Smith fighting for Zuffa for the first time this Saturday. I think he is being set up to face Jai Opetia later in the contract. Chris got easily beaten by Zurdo in a unification and we all kn […]
