Impact Boxing’s next event, scheduled for 29th September at Fenton Manor Sports Complex, has been postponed due to injuries to Chris Edwards, Jimmy Doherty and Scott Miller.
Chris Edwards is suffering from a slight muscle strain to his right thigh and has been withdrawn as a precaution since he is also preparing for a British super-flyweight fight in November.
Jimmy Doherty is suffering from a bruised right hand sustained in sparring last Monday. Scott Miller, who was hoping to make his debut, received a cut eyebrow that required stitches in the same sparring session. Both men should be fit in time for the re-arranged event which it is hoped will now take place during October.
Impact’s head coach, Lindon Newbon said, “It’s just one of those things. Sparring can be risky but obviously fighters need sparring most in the run up to a fight, I suppose it’s just an occupational hazard.”
“None of the lads have serious injuries and I am confident that they will be fit for October, in fact they are all still in the gym training even though they can’t spar. Chris probably could have boxed but with such an important fight looming in November we didn’t want to take any chances.”
Despite the disappointment of the local show being postponed the Potteries has gone boxing mad with fight fans clamouring for tickets to see Scott Lawton take on Amir Khan at Nottingham Ice Arena on 6th October. With four weeks still to go, Impact Boxing report selling around 1000 tickets already with many more fans have booked tickets through the venue.
Tickets for Lawton versus Khan are still available from Impact Boxing and can be booked by calling 0770 944 9279 or by visiting www.impactboxing.com
