European Boxing News: Kessler, Maccarinelli, Hide, Stieglitz, Trabant

Arena Box Promotion´s big show in Luebeck on Friday September 21 is now up to 14 fights and might begin as early as 5 PM. Cuban heavy Odlanier Solis will now face Marcus McGee and not Ross Puritty. Compatriot Yuriorkis Gamboa take on Argentinian Nestor Hugo Paniagua at featherweight.

Herbie Hide continues his comeback at cruiser and is in against Romanian Mircea Telecam. Heavyweight Willi Fischer fights Latvian Aleksejs Kosoboksovs. Roman Aramian defends the Internationall German title at middleweight against Alexander Sipos in the sole title fight on the bill.

SES promotes in Magdeburg on October 13 with super middles Denis Inkin and Robert Stieglitz on top. Stieglitz will face South African William Gare in a ten-round non-title fight while Inkin will defend the WBC International crown against an opponent to be announced.

Stefan Trabant, younger brother of Michel, a fomer IBF Youth champ and German – BDB – champ, will return to the ring after another break October 2 in Berlin. Trabant, now, 26, turned pro at 16 in 1997. In 2001, he beat Mondli Mbonambi for the IBF Youth middleweight title but then dropped out of boxing for almost a year. After two comeback fights in 2002, Stefan disappeared until last year when won a majority decision over Latvian Sandris Tomson. Trabant is 35-3-2-1 and is now licensed by the GBA..

Newly crowned WBA Intercontinental cruiser champ Johny Jensen has decided not to take the chance to fight WBO ruler Enzo Maccarinelli on the Kessler vs Calzaghe show November 3 in Cardiff. Jensen is now at # 10 in the WBA ratings.

Polish HammerKnockout Promotions begins the new season with a show on Saturday in Bytom headlined by cruiser Pawel Kolodziej, who defends the WBC Youth title against Hungarian Istvan Varga.

WBA and WBC super middle champ Mikkel Kessler has begun sparring for the showdown against WBO king Joe Calzaghe and went six rounds with Brit light heavy Peter Haymer last night at the CIK gym in Copenhagen.

German junior middle Nick Klappert, formerly with the now defunct Elite Box Promotion, has now signed with Wiking Box Team and debutes for his new promoter November 17 in Schwedt. Headlining the Schwedt bill is an interesting clash at lightweight between Jonny Ibramov and Muzaffer Tosun.

Russian / Norwegian heavy Daniel Peret, who was stopped in two rounds on Saturday in Karlstad, Sweden, is suspended for 30 days and thus off the planned fight against Dutchman Richel Hersisia September 29 in Soumagne, Belgium.
