Saturday night in Hidalgo, Texas, USA, former multi-weight world champion Johnny Tapia won a ten round decision victory over unregarded fighter Nicky Bentz. Tapia was deducted a point for a low blow and was cut quite badly but managed to eke out the decision win. The win reminds the boxing world of Tapia’s presence but it is unlikely to spark much interest in the higher echelons of the division as Tapia has already been tested and beaten in that quality of company. However, much like former champion Wayne McCullough has returned from the boxing abyss to engage WBC super bantamweight champion Oscar Larios in a fight, Tapia may be able to work his way into a final title shot one last time before he retires from boxing.
