Impact Boxing: Young Guns Eager For Success

ByBoxing Press 06/11/2007

Impact Boxing’s young duo of Jimmy Doherty and Scott Miller have declared their desire to follow the examples set by the camp’s senior professionals and to challenge for major honours in the next two years.

Tunstall based welterweight Doherty now unbeaten in his first six pro starts has already announced his intention to challenge for the Midlands Area title in the next few months but is now setting his sights even higher.

“So far this year Scott Lawton and Chris Edwards have fought for British and Commonwealth titles and Gary Reid has fought for a Commonwealth title,” said Doherty. “Chris Edwards is fighting for a British title again in December and the excitement in and around the gym helps to spur us all on.”

“When you start in any sport as a youngster you always dream of reaching the pinnacle but it seems so far away. The achievements of Scott, Chris and Gary have made it real for me now and I now believe that with their help I can reach the top level in British boxing.”

“Not only does their success help to motivate me but they are all now able to give me help and advice and I’d be a fool not to follow it.”

“I’m due to be fighting Gavin Tate at the Kings Hall on 17 November and I’ll be stepping up to eight rounds and topping the bill for the first time. I think that I’m ready and so do my coaches; if I’m going to fight for titles I need to get the experience over longer distances.”

“Tait’s a decent opponent and has won his last three fights, he also has three KO’s to his name. I know that I will need to impress against him if I am going to be taken as a serious contender so my fans should expect something special on the night.”

Fellow welterweight Scott Miller, who makes his pro debut on the same bill, won 21 of his 25 amateur contests with the Hulton Abbey club. Miller has an exciting come forward style and has been tipped to go far in the pro ranks.

“I’m excited about making my debut particularly since it has been delayed since September because of injuries to me and Jimmy,” said Miller. “I know that it might seem a bit early for me to be talking about titles but I also want to get to the top in the sport and I’m confident that I have what it takes. I want to get busy and I would like to be challenging for titles within the next two years.”

“I’ve been watching the other lads from the sidelines and it really does make you hungry for success. The set up at Impact is fantastic and the support that you get from everyone connected with the gym is second to none; I’m totally satisfied that I’m in the right place to further my career.”

Doherty and Miller turn out as part of Impact Boxing’s next event which will take place at the Kings Hall, Stoke on 17th November. Local lads Scott Lawton and Alex Ibbs will join them together with the highly rated Chester duo of Kevin Buckley and Chris Goodwin on a six-fight card.

Tickets priced £25 and £45 with special discounted prices of £10 for under 14ʼs are available from Impact Boxing on 0845 156 7168 or at www.impactboxing.com
