Heavyweight Showdown In Oklahoma City November 18

ByBoxing Press 10/11/2007

Boxing professionals duke it out at Remington Park Casino on Sunday, November 18, 2007 and the main event promises to be an exciting match-up between heavyweights Ismeal Reyna and Will Cook.

Reyna, from Kansas City, has won his last three fights and has a record of 4 wins, 2 losses and 2 draws. A tough in your face fighter that never gives up, Reyna is scheduled to fight Cook in a six round bout who he fought and lost to as an amateur. Reyna is looking to avenge his loss to Cook.

Fights scheduled to occur prior to the Reyna/Cook match include a bout between Oklahoma’s brightest prospect, Noah Zuhdi, the former starting point guard from Saint Gregory University and McDonald’s High School All American nominee, who is making his pro debut, and veteran fighter Rafael Torres.

Zuhdi, known around Oklahoma as the fighter with the physique of a Mr. Universe, is currently being coached by former World Lightweight Champion Sean O’Grady and trained by former number one contender Buck Smith. FOX Sports commentator O’Grady will be doing the blow-by-blow commentating of the event.

Popular Oklahoma cruiserweight fighter Darrin Humphrey will fight seasoned veteran David Robinson. Humphrey is a rugged and gifted fighter who has fought many world champions. In September of this year, Humphrey fought and lost in a tough battle with WBO champion Alexander Alexeev in Germany for the WBO Intercontinental cruiserweight title.

Humphrey won the vacant NABO Light-heavyweight title in May 2005. Robinson has 24 wins to his credit which includes 13 knockouts and 54 losses. Robinson won his last fight in June 2007, by 3rd round TKO.

Slugger southpaw Aaron Drake, 12 wins (9 KO’s) 6 losses, will be fighting Dennis Race in an excitement-filled lightweight bout scheduled for four rounds. Earlier this year, Drake was seen fighting for the vacant NBA lightweight welterweight title. Notably, Drakeʼs only loss by TKO was to Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. in June, 2006.

Ron Aubrey, a former Oklahoma City Blazer hockey player, will be fighting Doug Florence from Wichita, Kansas. Aubrey, known to the hockey world as the giant who instigated and fought more fights in the rink than any other hockey player, has already fought and knocked out his first opponent. His second heavyweight fight against Florence will prove whether or not the move to a different locus was the right one.

Welterweight Kyle Sherman will fight in a bout scheduled for four rounds. Sherman has over 90 fights to his credit as an amateur and has a pro record of 4 wins, 1 loss and 2 draws. Sherman’s opponent is TBA.

Country and western singer Darla Z will be appearing at the fights and will be performing her version of God Bless America before the Main Event. In October, 2005, Darla Z opened for country legend Willie Nelson at the Zoo Amphitheater. On August 9, 2007, Darla Z performed live on The Dennis Bono Show at Sam’s Town Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and appeared again to a sold out crowd at Sam’s Town in Las Vegas on November 1, 2007.

Fights begin at 7:00. Doors open at 6:00 p.m.
