Undefeated 2004 U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Andre Ward weighed 167 pounds, while opponent Roger Cantrell tipped the scales at 166.5 pounds during Thursday’s weigh-in at the Bay Garden Beach Resort on Reduit Beach in Gros-Islet, St. Lucia. Showtime will televise the 10-round super middleweight bout Friday at 11 p.m. ET/PT, while Dan Goossen of Goossen Tutor Promotions will serve as the promoter.
Heavyweights Joey Abell and Teke Oruh weighed in at 238 ½ and 249 ½ pounds, respectively at Thursday’s weigh-in. The pair then posed with promoter Dan Goossen on Reduit Beach outside of the Bay Garden Beach Resort in Gros-Islet , St. Lucia. Showtime will televise the 10-round heavyweight fight Friday at 11 p.m. ET/PT.
Joey Abell, 17-1, 1 NC (17): “I’m in good condition and looking for a quick fight, but I’m ready to go ten rounds and put on a show. Either way I’m going to win the fight.”
Teke Oruh, 14-0-1 (6): “I’m ready. I’m in good shape. I’m expecting a victory. That’s all.”
Andre Ward, 13-0, (8): “My condition is tip-top shape; we can’t get in any better shape than we are now. I’m just ready to go for tomorrow night. All I’ll predict is a win. KO, distance, it doesn’t matter how you get it. We worked hard to get a win and that’s what we’ve come to get.We’re definitely going to get it.”
Roger Cantrell, 12-0, (8): “I feel great. I’m looking for a victory. I’m in the best shape of my life. I trained 58 days in Las Vegas at the Top Rank Gym and I’m two pounds under weight and feel good, the best I’ve ever felt in my life. You knowWard’s a great boxer and I’m expecting the best out of him. He is going to get the best out of me. I predict a mid-round knockout.”
