Sultan Ibragimov Vs Wladimir Klitschko Boxing Undercard

ByBoxing Press 04/01/200805/01/2008

Forget the cold New York winter – on Saturday, February 23rd, the action at Madison Square Garden has just gotten even hotter with the addition of three of the Big Apple’s hottest fighters to the undercard of the World Heavyweight Title Unification bout between WBO champ Sultan Ibragimov and IBF titleholder Wladimir Klitschko.

Middleweight contender “Irish” John Duddy (23-0, 17 KOs), a native of Derry, Ireland who now makes his home in New York, will return to fight in his adopted hometown for the first time in nearly a year when he takes on veteran Michi “The Mexican Sensation” Munoz (20-1, 13 KOs) in a 10 round contest.

Also added to the show are unbeaten NYC prospects “Mean” Joe Greene (17-0, 12 KOs) and “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin (16-0, 13 KOs) .

Klitschko and Ibragimov, a 12 round heavyweight title unification bout, headlines a historic night of boxing presented by K2 Promotions and Seminole Warriors Boxing.

Boxing’s newest action hero, John Duddy has become a must-see fighter for fans from 8 to 80. A staple in New York venues since his pro debut in 2003, Duddy – who is making his sixth Madison Square Garden appearance – stepped closer to world tite contention in late-2006 with a stirring victory over former world champion Yory Boy Campas. In 2007, Duddy went 5-0, and even returned home to Ireland for a three fight tour that ended with his biggest win to date, a December victory over former world title challenger Howard Eastman. Duddy has his sights on a world title in 2008, but he must first get p! ast tough Michi Munoz on February 23rd to do it.

Queens’ “Mean” Joe Greene, a two-fisted banger with ring wisdom beyond his years, is looking to carry the momentum from his breakout year in 2007 into 2008. Just 21 years old, Greene went 4-0 last year, beating veterans Jose Spearman and Patrick Thompson, as well as fellow prospect Darryl Salmon, along the way. In 2008, the NABA champion plans on adding more belts to his collection. Greene will fight 12 rounds as he defends his NABA Title and will also fight for the vacant NABO Title.

One of the top young fighters to hit the east coast scene in years, Peter Quillin has shown the skill and charisma to live up to the nickname “Kid Chocolate”. A speedy force with knockout power who has only been the distance three times in 16 fights, Quillin is fresh off a second round TKO of seasoned battler Troy Lowery in December, and he will undoubtedly be welcomed back by NYC fans on February 23rd.

Klitschko v. Ibragimov main event will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing.
