In anticipation of the impending rubber match between super bantamweight world champions Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez, Showtime will re-air both scintillating boxing matches between the offensive-minded sluggers in their entirety on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 11 p.m. ET/PT. The instant classics—titled Marquez-Vazquez I & II—will also air on SHO2 on Friday, Feb. 1 at 10 p.m. ET/PT and Friday, Feb. 29 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
The one-hour telecast includes all the action, drama and the surprising ending of the first fight (Marquez, TKO 7), and moves quickly to the thrilling rematch (Vazquez, TKO 6), which has captured 2007 Fight of the Year honors from virtually every major boxing media outlet.
In 2007, a year in which boxing experienced a resurgence of public support with dozens of exciting fights among division leaders, the courage, skills and determination of Marquez and Vazquez stood out from the pack. Their first battle (March 2007) was an instant classic and early frontrunner for Fight of the Year… that is, until the rematch came along.
Their second fight (August 2007) was named 2007 Fight of the Year by the prestigious Ring Magazine, ESPN, Yahoo Sports and many more while the third round of that fight was named Round of the Year by The Ring Magazine and ESPN.
Marquez-Vazquez I and II has everything sports fans dream of: non-stop two-way action, blazing speed, precise power, blood, cuts, a broken nose, and vicious knockdowns with each fighter taking home a victory. The final installment, airing live on Showtime Saturday, March 1 at The Home Depot Center in greater Los Angeles , is for pride, legacy and most important, super bantamweight supremacy.
