Boxing For The Future: Marvis Frazier’s Visionary Project

Son of legendary Heavyweight World Champion Smokin’ Joe Frazier, Marvis Frazier, announces his plans for the building currently housing the Gym in North Philadelphia that bears his father’s name.

Marvis passionately believes this project will revive a once vibrant neighborhood and in doing so create a true ‘Beacon to the Community’ by offering sports and other activities targeted towards youths since he feels that the best way to help the community as a whole is to engage in programs designed to divert young men and women from engaging in drug culture and criminality.

Marvis’ plans include complete renovation of the entire building. In addition to the boxing gym it will have a full fitness gym, physical therapy center, a life counselling and drop-in neighborhood center as well as The Joe Frazier Boxing Museum and Exhibition Center.

On how this will be financed Marvis says “The project is costed at just over $10 million, and our intention is to raise this through commercial partnerships, local government initiatives and sponsorship”.

He adds “My father is just one of a long list of great boxing heroes that come from this great city. Our intention in creating the Joe Frazier Center is to attract people from all over the world to experience boxing and learn more about it’s history. In doing so we expect to create opportunities for the whole of Philadelphia and bring boxing back to it’s spiritual home”.
