Worldwide Friday Night Boxing Results

ByDanny Wilson 23/02/2008

Lots went in last night that we aren’t already reporting on here at SaddoBoxing so with no further ado, we hit the continent of Australia where at the Mansfield Tavern in the Brisbane suburbs, Mick “Pony” Shaw, 24-8-2 (7), was held to a draw by unheralded Ipswitch welterweight, Jason Kanofski, 4-1-3 (1).

22 year old Kanofsky was taking a big step up to be sure but held his own against former Australian Light Welter Champ Shaw, who had been recently campaigning as a lightweight.

Heading into New South Wales, there was a good bit of action at the Leagues Club in Wyong where ex-IBF Pan Pacific/WBF Welter titlist Chad Bennett, 21-2-3 (14), continued his campaign as a light middle by stopping Thai southpaw Mike Wansprasert, 13-16-2 (6), in the second to win his third bout on the trot.

Also on the bill, much-hyped Russian KO artist Victor Oganov, 27-1 (27), made his return bout following a ninth round stoppage loss at the hands of Fulgencio Zuniga last September for the vacant IBO Super Middle crown by finishing the low risk Thai light heavy Anont Donpradith, 0-8 (0), in the second.
Donpradith has now been KO’d for the sixth time in eight losses.

Speaking of Thailand, we head north to Witthayakom School in Tamaka where longtime PABA Bantam beltholder Tabtimdaeng Na Rachawat, 23-1 (16), decisioned former Filipino and WBO Asia Pacific Champ Glenn “The Rock” Porras, 12-2 (6), to retain his title for the ninth time.

Bangkok saw former WBC Asian Boxing Council Super Flyweight kingpin Devid Lookmahanak, 18-1 (9), regain his old title by posting a wide points decision over Japan’s Makoto Tanigawa, 12-4-1 (3).

39 year old evergreen Veeraphol Sahaprom, 61-3-2 (43), was also on the bill and the ex-long reigning WBC Bantamweight supremo caged his ninth straight victory by knocking out 23 year old Japanese super bantam Kentaro Nakayama, 10-2-1 (5), in the third frame.

Crossing the deep blue Pacific, we make a beachead on American soil in Southern California where at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, Mexican light welter Pavel Miranda, 15-1 (8), decisioned Panama’s ex- domestic lightweight boss William Gonzalez, 21-4-1 (6), over twelve to win the WBC Youth and CABOFE trophies.

Still in ultra-sunny Cali, NABF Middleweight titlist Enrique Ornelas, 27-4 (17), forced a seventh round referee stoppage upon journeyman Norberto Bravo, 25-15-3 (14), at Morongo Casino and Resort in Cabazon.

Working our way eastward, iton onto Nevada where at the Silver Legacy Resort Casino in Reno, Jessie Brinkley, 30-5 (21), banged out Otis Griffin, 18-3-2 (7), in the eleventh to annex the vacant WBC USNBC Super Middleweight title.

Flyweight Glenn “Filipino Bomber” Donaire made an appearance on the card, returning from his failed bid to lift the IBF and IBO titles from Vic Darchinyan in late 2006 by posting an eight round decision over scrappy Jose Albuquerque, 8-3-2 (2).

At the Ford Community Center in Dearborn, MI, light welter prospect Vernon “Ice Man” Paris, 18-0 (12), stayed perfect with a points win over 38 year old Florida based Kenyan southpaw, Nasser Athumani, 20-6-1 (16), who has now dropped his last three bouts.

WIBA Lightweight boss Kara Ro, 15-0 (7), of Canada also was on tap as she outpointed Lakeysha Williams, 9-11-3 (1), over six.

At Xtreme Indoor Karting in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, relocated former Cuban amateur Yuriorkis Gamboa, 9-0 (8), continued his ascent by winning the vacant NABF Super Feather belt by stopping Johnnie Edwards, 9-0 (8), in the first.

Colombian light middle Richard Guiterrez, 24-1 (14), posted a ten round UD over California based Nicaraguan Jose Varela, 23-3 (16), on the undercard.

We next arrive at Salon Marbet Plus in Ciudad Nezahualcoyotl in Mexico, where longtime former WBC Super Bantam Champion Oscar Larios, 60-6-1 (37), returned from a failed WBC Featherweight title bid against Jorge Linares is December to outpoint Arturo Gomez, 13-8-3 (5), securing the vacant WBC Latino Super Feather title.

Taking the train into Barranquilla, Colombia, our next stop is Centro Recreacional Las Vegas where Jose Miguel Torres, 20-2 (18), won the vacant WBC Latino Welter strap by knocking out overmatched novice Segundo Herrera, 2-9 (0), who has now lost five in a row and suffers his seventh stoppage in nine losses.

In another mismatch on the bill, middleweight Diego Castillo, 23-4 (20), KO’d hapless Freddy Barrios, 1-21 (0), in the second. Barrios suffers his 19th KO over 21 losses.

After a flight over the Atlantic, we’re suddenly at Carousel Casino in Temba, South Africa where Jeffrey Mathebula, 21-1-2 (12), retained his WBC International Feather title against Japan’s Yoshinori Miyata, 22-6-1 (11), via an eighth round stoppage.

We wrap things up by heading north to the Polideportivo in Mendizorroza, Spain where another epic mismatch took place with Colombian super feather Ignacio Mendoza, 23-3-2 (14), finishing Romainian no-hoper Constantin Stan, 0-27 (0), in the second.
