Jon Thaxton claims Europe’s best two lightweights will be in action when he boxes Yuri Romanov at the York Hall in Bethnal Green on Friday, April 4th.
British champion Thaxton (Norwich) headlines the Hennessy Sports show in association with title partners GoldenPalace.com which will be shown live on Sky Sports 1 9.30pm.
Thaxton faces WBA No 2 Romanov (Belarus) after accusing Commonwealth champion Amir Khan (Bolton) of avoiding him.
He said: “This fight is between the best in Britain and the best in Europe. It is the best two lightweights in Europe fighting it out and it will tell me how far I can go, in terms of genuine world titles.
“Amir Khan did not want any part in fighting either of us. I’ve not been thinking about Khan since they bottled fighting me. They didn’t want to know and that’s fine. I’ve gone my way and they have gone theirs.
“If we meet up in the future then great, but if we don’t I’m not getting too worried about it now.
“I’m fighting the European champion and Khan’s not, after saying that was the fight he wanted next.
“He said he would fight for the European title, but he hasn’t. He said he would fight me, but he hasn’t.
“I’m in a real fight and I’m the one who is fighting the European champion and I will be making a statement.”
