Northeast Promotions in Association with Cappiello Promotions presents A NIGHT OF THE IRISH at the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation – Foxwoods Resort Casino, in the Fox Theatre, on Friday March 18th 2005, presented Live on ESPN 2. Headlining the 7 card bout will be Irish Kevin McBride (31-4 26KO’s) from Brockton, MA, vs. Irish Kevin Monity (16-2-1 10KO’s) from Detroit, MI, in a 10 Round Heavyweight Bout. McBride received national attention last year when he was scheduled to fight Mike Tyson but do to contract difficulties the fight never materialized. McBride is looking forward to making his ESPN debut and his Foxwoods debut on March 18 when he takes on fellow hard hitting Irish man Kevin Monity; who promises to come into McBrides backyard and knock him out.
The Semi-Final features local favorite Delvin Rodriguez (13-1-1 7KO’s) from Danbury, CT who is fighting his first 10 round bout against seasoned veteran Luther “Sugar-Man” Smith (22-3 12KO’s) from Washington, D.C. in a Welterweight match up. For the highly touted Rodriguez this will be a major step up in competition, and Rodriguez hopes to establish himself as a Welterweight contender with an impressive victory over the veteran Smith, who in his last fight knocked out former World Title challenger Oba Carr in 2 Rounds. This is a very pivotal fight in the careers of both these young men.
In a special 6 Round Middleweight match up John Duddy (8-0 8KO’s) who originally hails from County Derry Ireland, and Lenord Pierre (16-0 13KO’s) from the Catskills’, NY, put their undefeated records on the line when they battle each other on March 18. Duddy will be facing the sternest test of his young career when he battles fellow undefeated Kevin Rooney protege, Lenord Pierre. Both these young men are crowd pleasing knockout artist with the winner firmly establishing himself as one of the country’s top prospects. This bout is scheduled for 6 rounds.
Also scheduled to appear on the card are the Clancy brothers James (3-0 1KO) and John (1-0 1KO) from nearby Boston, Anthony Russell, and making his Pro debut from Hawaii, Van Oscar.
