Risum Boxing: Kiilu, Onyango And Kimori Victorious In Nairobi

On a card promoted by Timebomb Promotions, David Kiilu scored a decisive “comeback” victory after a nine-month lay-off, when he knocked out Mwangi Wacuka in the first round of a scheduled six on Saturday, April 3 at the Club Afrique in Nairobi, Kenya.

The former WBF Intercontinental, East and Central Africa and Kenyan Champion, did no messing about, and took care of business in quick style. With the victory, Kiilu improves his record to 28-8-2, with 15 wins inside the distance.

After a disappointing cancellation of the KO World Series in Macau, China, where Samson Onyango and James Kimori were supposed to compete next weekend, Risum Boxing´s Kenyan coordinator and matchmaker Joseph Akhasamba quickly arranged for the two to fight at the Club Afrique, and both showed good form in beating their opponents.

At super middleweight, Onyango took a clear-cut unanimous decision after six rounds over former amateur star Kennedy Oyolo. Oyolo had promised Onyango a tough fight despite taking the assignment on short notice, and did try his best, but the Risum Boxing-fighter had too much in his bag of tricks to be seriously threatened by his game countryman. Onyango is now 14-2 with 10 knockouts.

Welterweight prospect Kimori fought journeyman Caleb Amianda for the third time in his career, due to a lack of opponents available on short notice. Like in the first two bouts, Kimori had no problems with Amianda, although he failed to stop him and had to settle for a fourth-round disqualification victory when Amianda was thrown out for excessive holding. Kimori took his undefeated ledger to 8-0, and has five wins before the final bell.

Manager Henrik Risum expressed satisfaction with the good results, saying: “Good work by the guys, and I am happy we were able to get Kimori and Onyango in action after the KO World Series farce. They are extremely professional, and have handled the disappointment of not going to Macau impeccably, and now we look forward to other big things.

“Its great to have Kiilu back as well, and I want to thank the boxers, my Kenyan coordinator Joseph Akhasamba, and promoter Atomic Bunde for their great work.”
