Boxing Info: Tony Oakey Vs Dean Francis

Now that Portsmouth has had time to reflect upon their historic FA Cup win, and the city has been dancing the Kan-Kan since May 17, it’s now time to change the music and dance the Oakey-Kokey as Portsmouth’s other favorite sporting star, Tony Oakey, steps into the ring on Friday, June 13 for “Fright Night” at the Mountbatten Centre to defend his British light heavyweight title for the third time.

This homecoming has caught the public’s imagination with fans debating whether or not the Sherman tank style of Oakey, 25-2-1 (7), can overcome the missile-like punching power of Commonwealth champion Dean Francis, 29-3 (23).

Styles make fights and the Mountbatten is sure to be a hothouse when these two champions clash on “Fright Night”.

Can the sheer heavy-handed power of Francis derail the iron-chinned, hard man pressure approach of Tony Oakey? No one has been able to put a dent in the armour of the British champion during 28 fights and the compact battler is confident that his upcoming opponent will have no better luck on June 13.

“I’ve been hit by heavyweights and have never been knocked out,” said Oakey. “A super middleweight coming up to light heavy will not be able to be the first to do so, he will fail as many have before him.”

As usual on a Frank Maloney promotion, not only is the top of the bill an exciting fight, the undercard is equally as explosive and the Mountbatten Center will not be a place for the week hearted.

Light middle Paul Dyer has been added to bill while his manager Jack Bishop, who has done so much to keep boxing alive in Portsmouth, puts his full support behind this Sky Sports televised show.

Dyer, 18-8 (1), will be looking to gatecrash the exciting light middleweight division with a win over Chislehurst prospect, Sam Webb, 10-1 (3), who is having his second fight in the space of six weeks on a Frank Maloney promotion.

Frank Maloney Promotions presents “Fright Night” the British and Commonwealth light heavyweight title fight between Tony Oakey and Dean Francis on Friday, June 13 at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth, England.

Tickets are priced at £80 and £40 and are available by logging onto www.frankmaloney.com or by calling the Box Office at 0871 226 1508.

Sky Sports will televise with channel and time to be announced shortly.
