Impact Boxing: Gary Reid Challenges Graeme Higginson For British Masters Title June 6

Boxing returns to Trentham Gardens next Friday for the first time since December 1999 when local promoters Impact Boxing host a three fight card at the venue.

Local light welterweight Gary Reid will now headline the event when he challenges holder Graeme Higginson for the British Masters light welterweight title over ten rounds.

Higginson secured the title last December by stopping hometown fighter Tristian Davies in the fifth round in Telford. The improving Higginson has now only lost one of his last five bouts but Reid presents his sternest test to date.

Reid, on the other hand, has failed to catch the refereeʼs eye in his last four fights but was considered unlucky last time out when beaten narrowly by Dean Harrison. Despite his recent form Reid is still considered a threat by most in the division due to his power and his experience in the professional ranks.

Stokeʼs rising star Scott Miller faces Ade Adewole on the undercard and must start as a firm favouriteas he seeks to maintain the perfect start to his professional career. Welterweight Miller has emerged the victor in each of his four bouts since turning pro last year and has disposed of two of his opponents within the allotted distance.

Adewole, on the other hand, was stopped in the fourth round by John Watson last December, this being his only previous professional start. In view of the records of the two men and Millerʼs relentless style another Miller stoppage must be a distinct possibility.

Chesterʼs cultured youngster Chris Goodwin will also make a welcome return to Stoke when he faces the veteran of 91 bouts Carl Allen of Wolverhampton. The skilfull Goodwin has won all but one of his six contests to date and has regularly thrilled Stoke crowds at the cityʼs Kings Hall with his technical prowess.

Allen will present him with a stiff challenge however. Despite his record Carl is both tough and durable furthermore, he has shared the ring with many of the UKʼs leading lights. On paper this looks like an intruiging clash of styles that promises to provide its fair share of thrills and spills.

Tickets for the event are available from Impact Boxing on 0797 182 4337.
