The action in Germany last night was at the Rundturm Arena in Cuxhaven as one of the top women’s boxers in the world, Natascha Ragosina, retained her five world titles at super middleweight and men’s super middle contender Robert Stieglitz won an important comeback fight following his IBF title eliminator loss in March.
32 year old Ragosina, a Kazakhstan born Russian now residing in Magdeburg, Germany, kept her perfect record at 18-0 (11) with a ten round unanimous decision win over Kenya’s Conjestina Achieng, 14-5-3 (7).
But it was one of the more difficult fights in recent memory for the unified women’s super middleweight champ as Achieng lived up to her “Hands of Stone” nickname and seemed to batter Ragosina for most of the rounds.
The champion stayed on the defensive all night and was comprehensively outworked by her African opponent but the judges saw it differently and awarded Ragosina a 97-93 (twice) and 96-94 decision.
The crowd in attendance gave Achieng, who sees a five fight win streak snapped, a standing round of applause while heartily booing the verdict for Ragosina.
Another Russian based in Germany, Robert Stieglitz, 32-2 (20), bounced back from his stoppage defeat to Librado Andrade four months ago with a fifth round victory over Denmark’s Fawaz Nasir, 13-3 (8).
Nasir started well but a shoulder injury suffered in the early rounds hampered his efforts and by the fifth frame was put dropped to a knee by Stieglitz, prompting Nasir’s corner to halt the proceedings at 1:35 of the round.
Light middleweight Maurice Weber, 12-0-1 (3), decisioned Johannes Fabrizius, 3-11-1, over ten rounds to retain the German BDB belt for the second time and Venezuelan bantamweight Nehomar Cermeno, 16-0 (10), stopped Estonian veteran Sergey Tasimov, 8-28-2 (2), in the third.
Former WIBF Super Bantam Champ Esther Schouten, 21-4-1 (10), of The Netherlands finished off Damaras Muthoni, 8-4-2 (4), of Kenya in the fourth.
