Hard-punching welterweight prospect “Jesse” James Kimori had to settle for a unanimous decision victory on Saturday at the WAB Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya, when he dominated and floored, but ultimately couldn’t finish, the extremely game Ken Oyolo in a fight made at light middleweight. With the victory, Kimori moved his record to 9-0 (5), while Oyolo falls to 3-15-3 (1).
Oyolo was selected to give Kimori a good test, as he has proven a tricky adversary for many other prospects from welter to super middle in Kenya, but Kimori dissected him from the first bell and especially had success with his left hook.
In round two, he almost finished the fight when he first connected with the hook to stagger Oyolo, who consequently received a standing eight-count, and then followed up with another left hook to send the experienced journeyman down for another count. However, Oyolo got up and made it through the round.
From the third round on, it was still Kimori in charge, but Oyolo proved his durability and experience by making it to the final bell. Less than three months ago, he managed the same feet without going down against another Risum Boxing fighter, Samson Onyango, at super middleweight, so Kimori´s performance was very much appr oved by manager Henrik Risum.
“I was a bit worried before this fight because I know that on a good day Ken Oyolo can give inexperienced pros like James a lot to think about in the ring, even serious problems, but James did very well and dominated from the start,” said Risum.
“A stoppage victory is always nice, but he will have learned more from going the rounds and we are very satisfied. We are looking to bring James back again in August, and hope that this fall will be the time for James to make his breakthrough on the Kenyan domestic scene.
“The plan is to step things up gradually, and we have a hit-list with names. There are plenty of challenges for James at welter and light middle in Kenya, if those guys just agree to step in the ring with him”.
