It was a good Saturday night across Asia and we’ll kick things off Down Under in Melbourne, Australia where there was a superb bill at The Peninsula.
PABA Light Heavyweight Champ Daniel “Porky” Lovett, 17-3 (10), was in action in a non-title affair with former Australian titlist Jamie Guy, 9-9-1 (7) that went the distance.
After ten rounds of combat, Lovett emerged the winner via scores of 100-89, 99-91 and 98-92 to win his third straight contest since losing the IBF Pan Pacific Super Middle crown to Nader Hamdan.
Big punching light welter Lance Gostelow, 16-1 (13), led the way on the undercard, belting out ex-WBC Asian Boxing Council titlist Sataporn Singwancha, 17-6-1 (10), of Thailand, at 2:09 of the second round.
Another Thai import took it on the chin as current Australian Super Middle titlist Les Sherrington, 20-5 (13), crushed Bangkok slugger Plaisakda Singwancha, 35-16 (29), at 1:58 of the first frame of a six round non-title bout.
Australian Light Middle kingpin Frank LoPorto, 9-3-2 (5), rounded out the bill by stopping Indonesia’s Hendrik Aritonang, 2-13 (1), in the second.
Saturday also featured a big card at Cebu Coliseum in Cebu City, Philippines, where Ciso Morales, Bert Batawang and Ranee Ganoy all entered the winner’s circle.
Morales, 12-0 (7), retained his WBO Super Bantam strap for the second time by winning a hard fought unanimous decision against Thailand’s Narongnoni Or Muangklang, 9-2 (5), after twelve rounds.
WBO Oriental Light Fly Champ Batawang, 48-11-1 (36), won his third bout on the bounce following a failed bid to lift the IBF belt from Ulises Solis in December by forcing a techinical decision stoppage of Benjie Sorolla, 22-14-3 (6), at 0:08 of the sixth in a non-title bout.
Sydney, Australia based lightweight Ganoy, 25-10-2 (21), lived up to his nickname of “KO Kid” by crushing Thailand’s Sapapetch Sor Sakaorat, 13-5 (8), at 2:34 of the second round.
At Trans 7 Studios in Jakarta, Indonesia, Aleksander “The Black Horse” Bajawa, 37-3-2 (12), bounced back after consecutive losses to annex the vacant Indonesian Super Feather belt with a third round KO of Untung Ortega, 10-12-3 (6).
Indonesian Bantam and Super Bantam Champion Richard Samosir, 17-0-3 (7), won a non-title bout with Yuchi Eausampan, 6-5 (4), finishing off the Thai visitor in the fifth of a scheduled ten rounder.
