World boxing champions Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero and Carina “La Reina” Moreno join forces with Captain Richard Calderon and the San Jose Police Department for the 25th annual “National Night Out”, a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch.
Gang impacted youth in the Alma, Goodyear Mastic, and Tamien communities of San Jose will be the focus of the local initiative, who’s leaders will congregate at the Alma Community Center at 136 W Alma Ave in San Jose, CA on Tuesday August 5, 2008 at 6pm.
“This is a great event that I’m honored to be a part of,” said Guerrero. “I know that the foundation of are children is a key focus to building a better future for us all. Everyone should come out and support this event.”
“I’m inspired to be part of this event,” said Moreno. :Right now gangs are a problem in most major cities. The violence needs to stop and we as a people need to unite and make this world a better place.”
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for local anticrime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships while sending a message to criminals, letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Last year’s National Night Out involved over 35 million peopel, consisting of citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.
