Boxing In Argentina: Weekend Results

The biggest card this weekend in the Land of Silver took place last night at the Nuevo Palacio Aurinegro in Puerto Madryn where southpaw Omar Andres Narvaez continued his mastery of the WBO Flyweight title, outboxing WBC Cabofe titlist Alejandro Hernandez over twelve rounds of action.

“El Huracan” put impressive skills on display and introduced the 22 year old Mexican visitor to the style of fighting that has won Narvaez an amazing fourteen consecutive defenses since winning the WBO gem against Adonis Rivas over six years ago.

The 33 year old Narvaez improves to 28-02 (17), and has equaled the Argentine world record defense mark of all-time great middleweight Carlos Monzon, cementing his status as a national hero.

Hernandez loses for only the second time since 2005 and drops to 20-6-1 (9).

Also on the card was super bantam veteran Jose Pedro Ramon Saez, 16-7-2 (8), who had to climb off the canvas twice in a war with previously undefeated prospect Mauricio Javier “Chucky” Munoz, 15-1 (8), who was also floored, before he could pull out an upset unanimous decision win and take the vacant interim WBO Latino belt.

Another seasoned operator was victorious as highly decorated Raul Eliseo Medina, 23-9-3 (8), put the first loss on Javier Nicolas Chacon’s, 12-1 (2), resume, knocking out the 27 year old in the second round.

There were three fight cards on Friday, and we start off at Gimnasio Municipal in Buenos Aires where lightweight Daniel Alberto Dorrego, 24-1-1 NC (16), participated in his 22nd straight bout without a loss by stopping veteran Norberto Adrian Acosta in the fifth round of a scheduled ten.

Club Newell’s in Tartagal saw 40 year old ageless cruiserweight Aaron Orlando Soria, 17-18-5 (5), get back in the win column with a wide points victory over 25 year old Bolivian Champion Saul Farah, 33-8-2 (27), after eight rounds of combat.

Two-time WBO Latino Welterweight Champion Jorge Daniel Miranda, 29-5 (11), kept busy in a non-title bout by predictably crushing southpaw novice Jorge Antonio Rodriguez, 2-8 (0), in the first round.
