From the office of WBC President José Sulaimán:
World Boxing Council president José Sulaimán will attend the heavyweight world championship fight between champion Samuel Peter of Nigeria and former champion Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine on October 11 in Germany.
President Sulaiman said, “This is a very important fight and is expected to be very close and dramatic. The WBC, to ensure absolute neutrality, has appointed several WBC officers to supervise this great boxing match.
“The general supervisor will be Charlie Giles, the Chairman of the British Boxing Board of Control, who will assisted by Bob Logist, the president of the European Boxing Union. Special supervisors will be Houcine Houichi, the president of the African Boxing Union, and Edmund Lipinski, the president of the CIS & Slovenian Boxing Bureau (Russia).
“The referee will be Massimo Barroveccio of Italy, and the judges will be John Keane of Great Britain, Anek Hongtongkam of Thailand, and Ken Morita of Japan.”
The WBC has been approached by some people in the Canadian boxing community regarding the boxing authorities in that country. The WBC confirms that the only Canadian boxing authority that it recognizes is the Canadian Boxing Federation, which has been in boxing for over half a century, and is the only Canadian federation affiliated with the North American Boxing Federation.
No other boxing authority in Canada is recognized by the WBC. The Canadian Boxing Federation has, and will always have, the WBC’s full support and recognition.
