Olympian Sensation Demetrius Andrade To Hold Boxing Workshop Saturday

ByBoxing Press 16/10/2008

2008 Olympian Demetrius Andrade will be conducting a boxing workshop for kids as part of the Kid’s Action League (KAL) Festival this Saturday October 18 in Providence, RI. The workshop will be held at the Main Street Martial Arts studio at 1282 North Main Street in Providence, RI at 2:00 PM.

KAL is dedicated to providing educational, cultural arts and fitness opportunities to children of all backgrounds, especially to those who cannot easily afford these types of programs. The festival, which is being put together to raise money for scholarships, will go from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM and will feature pony rides, inflatable rides, music by Bill Harley, plus martial arts workshops for the whole family.

“We are honored to have Demetrius at our event and we admire his efforts to reach out to kids with a positive message. We know Demetrius is going to be a Star in the boxing world, and really to appreciate him taking time out of his busy training schedule to participate in the workshop on Saturday,” stated coordinating producer Kimberly Polson.

“This was one of the things that really attracted me to Demetrius when we first met,” said Joe DeGuardia, CEO of Star Boxing and co-promoter of Andrade. “Not only is he a tremendous boxer inside the ring, he is also a tremendous human being outside. Demetrius is always doing anything and everything he can to help out in his community and this is just another testament to that.”

Art Pelullo, President of Banner Promotions and also co-promoter of Andrade voiced a similar opinion as DeGuardia. “As I have mentioned numerous times before, Demetrius’ character outside the boxing ring was one of the main deciding factors in why I chose to work with him. At such a young age it is very uncommon to come across someone who is as focused, determined, and mature as Demetrius is. These type of qualities are what makes Demetrius such a great boxer, and as Joe stated, also a great human being.”

Andrade who recently signed with Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing and Art Pelullo’s Banner Promotions, will make his pro-debut on October 23rd at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Washington. The bout will be shown live on the Versus network on the undercard of the Orlando Salido vs. Cristobal Cruz match for the vacant IBF featherweight championship.

The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings.
