Round by Round: Terry Smith-Fernely Feliz.

ByJim Cawkwell 25/02/200512/05/2013
The main event of the Friday Night Fights card in Oklahoma tonight culminated in the heavyweight clash between Terry Smith and Fernely Feliz. The following is a thorough account of all the round by round action as it happened in this intriguing heavyweight showdown.

Round one: Smith looks in better physical condition than when he fought Calvin Brock in his last

television appearance. There is not much action in the early going, both fighters have a low left hand in defense, inviting an attack. They exchange some untidy jabs that glance off one another. Smith gets through with some good looking lefts and rights towards the end of the round.

Round two: Some good rights from Smith get through early. A sneaky left from Feliz lands. They both go at each other to some effect. Feliz is holding a lot. Smith begins to find some success with his jab and it is a good action fight so far.

Round three: More decent right hands land from Smith. They trade some big shots and Smith lands a succession of hurtful body shots inside a clinch. Rushing tactics from Smith on the outside result in a lot of missed punches as Felix merely backs out of range.

Round four: The action becomes messy here. Smith is looking like the boss in the fight so far while Felix waits and tries to land some counter-punches. Smith gets in with a big right. Feliz holds excessively and Smith manages to land another good right hand before the end of the round.

Round five: Smith is not setting things up and both are really just looking for the big punch. Smith starts to step up his efforts as the round wears on. Feliz is not at all busy. Towards the rounds end, both fighters land some big punches. It is a very entertaining fight in spurts.

Round six: A big left hook from Smith starts this round followed by another one that goes unanswered by Feliz. Smith gets caught by a huge right hand. Feliz has some success in this round but Smith is probably winning the majority of the rounds by being the busier fighter.

Round seven: Both have left eye damage from landing right hands on each other. Smith is bossing the rounds. Feliz needs Smith to throw more punches in order to set up counter-punching opportunities but Smith is not falling into that trap.

Round eight: Smith misses a lot with wild swinging attempts. There is plenty of circling and miving into position but little in the way of effective action to speak of. Whatever does get through from either fighter is not very accurate.

Round nine: A big counter-right hand for Feliz opens this round. Feliz then goes on the rampage, trying to land some serious leather on Smith. Smith survives some dangerous punches to land some of his own. Feliz is looking stronger in this round and lands the better punches including another big left hand that rocks Smith.

Round ten: Both fighters look to close the show in good style. A big right hand from Smith lands to good effect. Feliz’s coming forward in this final round allows Smith some decent openings which he exploits. A headbutt cuts Smith who begins to circle Feliz and jab well. More good action between the two towards the end of the round is interrupted by another head clash that bothers Smith’s cut. They both end the fight swinging for each other.

Final scores are: 96-94 and two cards of 97-93, all for the winner by unanimous ten round decision, Terry Smith.

  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 07/04/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]
