Boxing In Germany: Garay Defends WBA Crown In Rostock

Tonight at Stadhalle in Rostock, WBA Light Heavyweight Champion Hugo Hernan Garay, 31-3 (17), puts his belt at risk against Schwerin southpaw Juergen Brahmer, 31-1 (25).

Brahmer will have the home advantage against the Argentine visitor and the hard punching 30 year old rides a four bout winning streak into his first world title challenge.

While Brahmer has faced good competition during his run up to the world title, he will be taking a step up when the bell rings against 27 year old Garay, a Buenos Aires man who pushed WBO Champion Zsolt Erdei hard during a pair of title challenges in 2004 and 2005.

Garay won the vacant WBA title by posting a wide points decision over Yuri Barashian at the famed Luna Park Stadium in Buenos Aires this past March.

There a re a few other good bouts on the bill as well as the vacant EBA Light Heavyweight title will be fought over by Aleksy Kuziemski, 15-0 (2), and Mantas Tarvydas, 15-4 (10), and two women’s title fights are on tap.

Ina Menzer, 21-0 (9), defends her WIBF and WBA Featherweight crowns against Adrian Salles, 11-3-1 (5), while WIBF and GBU Super Flyweight Champ Alesia Graf, 21-1 (9), meets Magdalena Dahlen, 9-0 (3).
