Fresh on the heels of a dominating unanimous decision victory over Pennsylvanian hit-man Alphonso Williams, Daniel “The Haitian Sensation” Edouard is getting back in the ring only 35 days later!
His eight round bash with Williams is being hailed by critics as one of the more competitive and entertaining bouts on the Roy Jones vs. Joe Calzaghe HBO PPV card.
Edouard is very appreciative of being chosen to fight on the card. “I grew up watching both fighters,” he said. “I watched Roy a little more than Calzaghe simply because of location. Both fighters are phenomenal class acts, definite Hall of Famers, and I count it an honor to have fought on the same card with them.”
The Jacques Deschamps promoted December 13 card, which will be Edouard’s third in less than four months, will take place at Hotel Melia Panama Canal in Colon City, Panama. Edouard will appear in the main event against Panama native and crowd favorite Edouardo De La Cruz.
“Fighters ultimately have the power to make decisions if they choose,” said Edouard. “Going into another fighter’s backyard in another country is always risky. I wanted to fight on this card but I don’t plan on leaving it up to the judges. I love fighting. Boxing! Mixing it up! These last two years I feel that I have been separated from my lover [boxing] and now we’re back in each other’s arms.”
Edouard underwent severe managerial setbacks that limited his career to only three fights between 2006 and 2007, and an ill-timed bout against Jermaine Taylor. Finally free of delays and strapped with a new team, Edouard is fully committed to establishing himself in the middleweight ranks. Legendary trainer Panama Lewis, whom Edouard works with exclusively, sees amazing potential in Danny.
“Edouard brings a crowd pleasing style to the ring and television,” said Lewis.
“Most people remember me from bouts that took place 3-4 years ago,” said Edouard. “I want to give them something new to remember.”
Edouard is slated as the main event on a fight card in his hometown of West Palm Beach, FL on January 17. Details are forthcoming.
