Former WBC Lightweight Champion Jose Luis Castillo was back in action on Saturday, stopping James Wayka in the second round of a scheduled ten at Palenque del Fex in Mexicali, Mexico.
The 35 year old Castillo, 57-9-1 (49), now campaigns as a welterweight and was coming off a loss to Argentina’s Sebastian Andres Lujan in July. American visitor Wayka drops to 16-8 (8).
Also on the card, lightweight Ricardo Dominquez, 26-4-2 (15), won an eight round majority draw against former Mexican Super Feather titlist Guadalupe Rosales, 27-4 (15).
At the Polideportivo Municipal in Monte Hermoso, Buenos Aires, Argentina, former WBA Fedelatin Welter Champ Rodolfo Ezequiel Martinez, 33-2-1 (12), took home the vacant WBC Mundo Hispano title at welterweight by posting a split decision over former South American titlist Raul Eduardo Bejarano, 25-17-4 (12), after twelve rounds of close combat.
Towering heavyweight Gonzalo Omar Basile, 38-4 (17), avenged a stoppage loss in April at the hands of Cesar Gustavo Acevedo, 9-9-2 (4), by knocking his crosstown Buenos Aires rival out in two rounds during the third bout between the pair.
Friday in Argentina saw hometown light welterweight hero Walter Sergio Gomez, 19-7-1 (8), climb off the canvas twice to stop Peruvian southpaw Raul Zambrano, 7-8-2 (3), in the fifth round at Polideportivo Municipal in Cafayate.
