SaddoBoxing.com managed to get in a few words with super middleweight contender Dorian Beaupierre. Dorian headlines this Friday’s “Showbox” fight card in his bout against Kelly Pavlik. Tune in to hear Dorian explain to us his thoughts and feelings heading into Friday’s showdown. He also goes in deep detail about everything that had to happen to make this day materialize, as well as his plans for the future and much, much more.
SaddoBoxing: For those of us that don’t know who Dorian Beaupierre is, please tell us a little bit about yourself, as well as describing your style as a fighter?
Dorian Beaupierre: “First and foremost, I would like to thank my trainer Lenny Dejesus, my manager Andre Kut, and my man Normon Meiagy for sticking with me through thick and thin. They made all of this possible. Well, Dorian Beaupierre is a hungry fighter that wants it all. I am married with two kids, and I work real hard for my family. I take care of what I got to do to set a great example for my kids, as well as be a good role model. My style as a fighter, I would have to say boxer first, then puncher. I like to handle my business and take my time. I like to use my jab and move around. I never go into a fight rushing for a knockout. If it comes it comes, if it doesn’t then it doesn’t.”
SB: Would you still consider yourself a prospect or do you feel that you’re ready to face top-ranked opposition on a consistent basis now?
DB: “I would still consider myself a prospect; everything is falling into place though. There is still a lot of learning to do. Experience is always the name of the game, with some time I will be ready for the top contenders.”
SB: Dorian, with whom did you spar to better prepare you for Kelly Pavlik?
DB: “I sparred with former world champion Lonnie Bradley as well as a few local guys in the Bronx. This is the best workout I have had before a fight, and I am in great shape. You will see on Friday night.”
SB: What separates you from the rest of the up and coming super middleweights? For example: Yusef Mack, Anthony Hanshaw, and Kingsley Ikeke.
DB: “I feel that my dedication, hard work as well has hunger separates me from the rest of the bunch. This is what I do, I enjoy it and I want to be great at it. I am always in the gym non-stop. Like I said before, I lead by example, as a family man it is imperative to set good examples. Now that’s what separates me from the pack.”
SB: What do you think of the fighters I just mentioned? Is there any probability that we the boxing public can see you in the ring with any of these guys?
DB: “They are all terrific fighters. There is nothing I would love more then to step inside the ring with any of those guys. However, the time has to be right. Friday is a big day; this will be the fight that propels me to the next level. I do have the talent to be here with everyone else. Look forward to an excellent performance from Dorian Beaupierre.”
SB: Dorian, at 12-2-2 with 6 KO’s do you feel that your opponents “properly respect” your punching power or do you feel they “sleep” on it?
DB: “I feel that my opponents do “sleep’ on my punching power. Even though I am coming off of a knockout victory, I did go through some confidence issues. I had lost the confidence in my power for the last five fights. But the main objective during training camp was to improve my punching power. The regimen was effective; I feel that it did improve my power. All the hard work will pay off. It will be evident come Friday night.”
SB: What type of physical and psychological condition are you going to be in on Friday night?
DB: “I have been in the gym for ten straight weeks, with no days off. Kelly Pavlik has been on my mind for ten weeks. I am aware of the task on hand and I know what I have to do, I got to handle my business. Like I said before, this is the best workout I have had. I am in top shape physically and psychologically as well. Come Friday night you will see excellent discipline executed.”
SB: Could you, tell us a little bit about your opponent Kelly Pavlik? What flaws do you see that you feel you can exploit?
DB: “Well I feel that Kelly Pavlik is a one-dimensional fighter. He is a straight-up fighter that likes to trade on the outside and in. He relies a lot on his power. He has never been in there with someone that he can’t overpower. Kelly is a stationary target; I will confuse him with my jab and lateral movement. I will take him off of his game plan.”
SB: What can we expect from Dorian Beaupierre in the future?
DB: “Expect a lot of good things. I got the right trainers now, you definitely will see big things from Dorian Beaupierre. To all the nonbelievers and all of those that said I couldn’t make it, expect the unexpected. After a solid outing on Friday, my career will catapult to that next level. Right where I want to be. Look for Dorian Beaupierre in 2005.”
SB: In closing, is there anything you would like to say or reiterate that has or hasn’t been addressed?
DB: “Yeah, for those that don’t know, I have fought in Mississippi twice before. I made my pro-debut here and I won by knockout. My eighth fight was here as well, again I won by knockout. I am undefeated here. I am just so happy to be here in beautiful Mississippi. This is my home away from home. Also, I would like to thank everyone that helped me out in preparing for this fight. Much love goes out to the guys out in the Bronx. “Big ups’ to Betaces gym, Jerome gym, and Laporte gym. Just thank you so much for the love and support. It truly is appreciated.
SB: With that said, on behalf of SaddoBoxing, we would like to thank Dorian Beaupierre for his time. Good luck Friday night my friend, all the best!
DB: “My pleasure!”
