Boxing In Canada: Bute vs. Zuniga In Montreal March 31

ByBoxing Press 29/01/2009

InterBox is proud to announce that it will stage the fourth consecutive World championship title bout of IBF Super Middleweight ruler Lucian Bute, 23-0-0 (18) at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Lucian can count on the support of his ever-growing fan base when he laces up the gloves on Friday, March 13, 2009 in this his third IBF title defense bout against dangerous knockout artist Fulgencio Zuniga, 22-3-1 (19) from Colombia.

Lucian is thrilled to be fighting in Montreal again, and will be looking to make a statement against Zuniga and solidify his rank among the very top Super Middleweights in the World.

Zuniga, rated #9 by the WBO and #10 by both the WBC and the IBF, is coming off a win after challenging Denis Inkin for the WBO Super Middleweight title in Germany last September 27, 2008 in a fight that Zuniga and his Team claim ended with a controversial 12-round decision for Inkin.

All three of Zuniga’s losses have come against World champions: Kelly Pavlik, Daniel Santos and Denis Inkin.

Fulgencio Zuniga is used to fighting in hostile territory and coming to Quebec to realize his dream of becoming World champion does not scare him in the least. “I will go to Canada to fight Lucian Bute in an all action boxing war”, states Zuniga.

“I will pressure Lucian Bute from the first round until he says no mas. I am thankful for the opportunity that InterBox is giving me to fight their champion. I only had about 2 weeks to prepare for Inkin. Still, I know I beat him! This time I will be fully prepared to take the IBF title away from Lucian Bute on March 13th. Don’t miss this fight”.

Hungrier than ever, Lucian Bute is counting down the days before he can make another emotionally charged spine-tingling walk from the dressing room to the ring in front of tens of thousands of cheering fans at the Bell Centre. “I saw a few fights of Zuniga and he is a very aggressive fighter. His style will be very beneficial for my career“states Bute .

“I know he will try and pressure me and hope I make mistakes so he can go for the knockout, so I will not take him lightly. I am already working hard in the gym and I want to put on a great show for the fans. Zuniga will be a good test for me, but I find him over confident. Friday the 13th will be very unlucky for Zuniga. He will not leave the Bell Centre with the IBF belt in his bag but rather with a 4th career defeat”.

“The choice of Fulgencio Zuniga as Bute’s opponent will increase our chances of attracting a major television broadcaster from the United States . Zuniga’s brilliant upset performance against then undefeated rising southpaw star Victor Oganov was reportedly one of the most watched boxing bouts on ShoBox”, declares Stephan Larouche, Bute ’s head trainer. “Zuniga being a right hander and a very aggressive fighter will also go a long way in helping Lucian prepare for aggressive fighters”.

With a new giant 40-foot, 4-screen High Definition screen at the Bell Centre, each seat becomes a privileged one for the upcoming Bute vs. Zuniga bout. Tickets to InterBox’s first major Boxing Gala of 2009 go on sale as of Saturday, January 31 at noon by contacting the Admissions Network (514-790-1245, 1-800-361-4585 or by visiting www.admission.com), and at the Club de boxe Champion by calling 514-376-0980.
