Boxing In Europe: Weekend Results

On Sunday at Bussum, Netherlands, Nigerian born Amsterdam lightweight Innocent Anyanwu, 18-0-2 (11), saw the victory parade continue as the 26 year old BeNeLux Lightweight and Super Feather Champion dropped Belgium’s Herve De Luca, 14-4-1 (7), twice before finishing him off in the third.

This isn’t the first time the pair have clashed as Anyanwu KO’d De Luca in the seventh two years ago in Belgiu for the BeNeLux super feather crown.

There was a good bill on Saturday at Kisahalli in Helsinki, Finland as ex-European Middleweight Champion Amin Asikainen, 26-2 (17), bounced back from a failed bid to recapture his old title in November by winning an eight rounder on points against Argentine import Valentin Antonio Ochoa, 20-13-1 (8).

Also on the card, undefeated Russian southpaw Denis Shafikov, 19-0 (10), defeated hard-punching Mexican veteran Juan Carlos Rodriguez, 57-23-2 (41), on points after a competitive eight round battle.

At Salle Marie Jose Perec in Fourmies, France, local man Francois Bastient, 36-7-1 (16), was dethroned as French Middleweight Champion by southpaw Affif Belghecham, 17-3-1 (2), on points after ten rounds.

34 year old Feyzin resident Belghecham is set to challenge for the vacant European Union title in Paris at the end of May.

On Friday at Topsporthal Vlaanderen in Gent, Belgium, Jurgen Haeck, 23-4-1 (7), retained the Belgian Welterweight belt with a rematch victory over Kobe Vanderkerkhove, 13-8-1 (5), via second round technical decision.

On the undercard, granite-jawed former European cruiserweight title challenger Ismail Abdoul, 29-15-2 (11), defeated Giovanni Jemma, 12-13-1 (3), in the fifth.

At Pala Carnera in Udine, Italy, Trieste based Cuban light welter Brunet Zamora, 17-0 (8), retained his WBA Intercontinental crown wfor the second time with a ten round TKO of Sweden based Ugandan slugger Peter Semo, 19-4 (14).

Also in action at Udine was a ten round war for the vacant Italian light welter belt, won by Emanuele De Prophetis, 15-3 (9), via split decision over Alfredo Di Feto, 15-7-1 (7).
