Star Boxing: Curtis Stevens Added To April 28 Show

ByBoxing Press 21/04/2009

Exciting super middleweight contender, Curtis “Showtime” Stevens, 19-2 (14), will look to improve to a perfect 3-0 under the Star Boxing banner, when he takes on dangerous Don Mouton, 9-3-1 (8), on April 28 in an eight round super middleweight contest.

Stevens vs. Mouton will be the co-feature bout of the evening for Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing premier installment of its new series “VIP Boxing.”

The bout will take place at the elegant Russo’s On The Bay in Howard Beach, NY, and is headlined by Queens own heavyweight fan favorite Vinny Maddalone, 31-5 (22), taking on Benji “Boom Boom” Baker, 18-6 (9), in a scheduled eight rounder.

The 24-year-old Stevens, who hails from Brownsville, NY, was one of the most touted amateur prospects to come out of New York in years when he turned pro back in 2004 at the age of 19.

Stevens is a very exciting and aggressive boxer and has tremendous power in both hands, as witnessed by 14 of his 19 wins coming by way of knockout.

Since joining the Star roster, Stevens is a perfect 2-0 (2), including a 48 second annihilation of Ray Smith in his last fight back in November. A single left hook to the temple from Stevens sent Smith down hard, and then stumbling across the ring upon attempting to get up.

Mounton is by no means a push over. In his last fight he knocked out Olympian Jerson Ravelo in the 8th round. Prior to the fight with Ravelo, Mouton won an easy ten round unanimous decision over Walid Smichet.

Smichet is best known for giving undefeated John Duddy worlds of trouble when they squared off back in 2008. Many felt Smichet did more then enough to win the fight, battering and bloodying Duddy for ten action packed rounds.

Duddy needed 30 stitches to repair cuts in his face he suffered from the fight, which ultimately ended up costing him a $1.45 million dollar payday against middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik.

“This is one of those fights that as a boxing fan you love to see,” stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO and President of Star Boxing.

“Curtis is one of the biggest punchers in his division, and has produced numerous highlight reel knockouts since entering the professional ranks, including a perfect two for two while fighting for Star.”

“Mouton is a tough guy, and he is not going to run from Curtis. He is going to be right there for Curtis to hit and when Curtis hits you, he hurts you.

“This is going to be an extremely entertaining co-feature bout and we are really excited to see Curtis come out victorious and take another step towards challenging the elite fighters in the super middleweight division.”

The show will kick off at 7PM sharp with an hour long cocktail reception. Immediately following the reception a four course elegant dinner will start being served, at which time the first bout will go on. There will be cocktail service throughout, with an open bar running for the remainder of the evenings fights.

In addition, Star Boxing has teamed up with Bruce Eagel’s Eagel Sports Promotions to showcase some of the most incredible sports and entertainment memorabilia for auction throughout the night.

A silent auction will be going on at different tables throughout the arena during the bouts, with the feature items of the evening being auctioned off inside the ring between fights. Proceeds from the auction will benefit local charities.

After the boxing has concluded those sitting at the $3500 premier tables will be invited to join a post fight party with celebrities, boxing insiders and the beautiful ring card girls courtesy of Larry Flynt’s Hustler Club for an ultra exclusive after party held in the exquisite Florentine Room at Russo’s.

A complete list of undercard bouts will be announced shortly. Tables of ten are available for purchase for $2500 (Ringside), and $3500 (First row Ringside and elevated Ringside) respectively.

There will be a limited amount of individual seats at select tables available, with the cost for each seat at $250, and $350. You may contact Star Boxing for tickets at 718-823-2000 or by visiting www.starboxing.com.

Russo’s On The Bay is located at 162-45 Cross Bay Blvd, Howard Beach, NY 11414.
