Risum Boxing: Golden Boy Poulsen Gets First Title Fight June 19

It will almost literally be in his own backyard when Kim Poulsen, 11-1 (2), fights for the first title of his career on June 19.

He grew up, and still lives, only a few hundred meters away from Sønderbro Kulturhus in Horsens, where he will take on an opponent TBA for the vacant UBO Intercontinental lightweight title.

Risum Boxing, in cooperation with Brian Mathiasen Boxing, today announced a promotion dubbed Fightnight Horsens, headlined by Poulsen and with former WBO Intercontinental title-challenger Fawaz Nasir, 13-3 (8), as one of the names on the undercard. Nasir is returning after a lay-off due to injury.

Poulsen, coming off a first-round knockout victory over Tom Pudler in Germany last month, is exited about the opportunity, and wo ws not to disappoint his team when fight-night arrives in less than six weeks.

“I have only had twelve professional fights so far, and already now I am given an opportunity to win a title,” said Poulsen. “It’s amazing, and I feel very fortunate that Henrik Risum and Brian Mathiasen is showing me they have confidence in me.

“So many Danish boxers are not fighting at all these days, but I will fight in front of friends and family, and hopefully a lot of other people, in my hometown for a championship. I’m a lucky guy!”

And manager Risum believes the event could turn out a big success, especially, and obviously, if Poulsen emerges victorious against whoever the opponent will be.

“I have a couple of opponents close to signing for the fight, and both of them will be the toughest assignment of Kim’s career so far,” said Risum.

“He will definitely step up in class on June 19, and fight someone with loads of experience. Someone Kim could lose to if he doesn’t fight up to his best, so it will be an exiting night.”

Risum is hoping, and believes it is realistic, that the venue will be packed and full of atmosphere. Sønderbro Kulturhus is a nice, intimate venue with a capacity of around 1000 spectators, and, according to Risum, perfect for boxing.

“The venue is great, the main event will be exiting, we hope to put on a good undercard, the tickets will be affordable [150 Danish kroners /approximately 20 Euros], so now its time for all those who are moaning about Danish professional boxing being close to extinct to turn up and support this event”.
