Star Boxing: Johnson vs. Vargas Undercard Announced

On May 15, Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing brings boxing back to Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, NJ with a compelling six bout card.

In the main event bout of the evening, the WBA #5, WBC #10, IBF #13 rated heavyweight in the world Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson, 21-0-1 (8), is set to square off against 2004 Olympic Team Captain Devin Vargas, 17-0 (7), in a ten round heavyweight contest.

The winner stakes their claim as the top American heavyweight and takes one step closer to challenging for a world title.

The co-feature bout of the evening sees the Star Boxing debut of Jorge “The Truth’ Teron, 22-1-1 (15), as he looks to avenge the only loss of his career as a pro when he takes on the always dangerous Aldo Valtierra, 25-10 (13).

Teron vs. Valtierra is scheduled for ten rounds in the lightweight division. Both the co-feature and main event of the evening will be broadcast live on ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights”.

Former WBA heavyweight champion of the world, Bruce “The Atlantic City Express” Seldon, 39-7 (35), looks to impress in front of his hometown fans when he takes on Gabe “Big G” Brown, 18-9-4 (12), in an eight round heavyweight showdown.

Seldon is 4-1 in his last five fights, with all four of his wins coming by way of knockout. Seldon last saw action in Atlantic City on November 7, when he steamrolled through Brad Gregory, who was 11-1 (9) at the time, stopping him in the second round of their scheduled eight rounder.

Also on the card is Wildwood, New Jersey’s light heavyweight hopeful, Chuck “The Professor” Mussachio, 12-0-2 (5). Mussachio looks to stay unbeaten when he takes a step up in competition against former WBA light middleweight champion of the world, Carl Daniels, 50-16-1 (32). The bout is scheduled for six rounds in the light heavyweight division.

Another New Jersey hopeful, John Lenox, 1-0 (1), of Lincoln Park, NJ, will look to improve to 2-0 when he takes on Blackville, South Carolina’s Robert Brown, 0-1 (0), in a four round heavyweight bout.

Rounding out the card will be another heavyweight showdown between New York City’s Kimani Cunningham, 0-1 (0), and Newark, New Jersey’s Tyyab Beale, 1-0 (0).

The card is promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, in association with Harrah’s Resort.
