The legendary Buenos Aires venue Estadio Luna Park features a vacant WBO cruiserweight title clash tonight as Interim champ Victor Emilio Ramirez meets WBO Latino beltholder Ali Ismailov over twelve scheduled rounds.
Just 25 years of age, Ramirez, also known as “El Tyson Del Abasto”, has won his last eight bouts over mostly domestic opposition but delivered in a big way in January.
Ramirez went to Germany to face undefeated southpaw Alexander Alexeev but shocked the highly touted Hamburg based prospect, forcing Alexeev to quit after the eighth round to capture the interim WBO crown.
35 year old Ismailov, 15-1-1 (11), from Baku, Azerbaijan is just 5 ‘9 but the stocky Ukrainian born grafter has won 12 straight contests since being thrown in with the far more experienced future IBF title challenger Vadim Tokarev three years ago.
Ismailov has barely lost a round during that run and his resume boasts victories over good second tier competition.
The younger Ramirez should win this one but cannot afford to make any mistakes against the motivated visitor Ismailov.
The undercard sports a good featherweight matchup as unbeaten Jonathan Victor Barros, 25-0-1 (14), puts his WBO Latino belt at risk against iron-chinned former WBC Mundo Hispano super feather and super bantam champ Carlos Ricardo Rodriguez, 20-2 (11).
