Baltimore Boxing Show Headlined By Davis vs. Cummings May 29

ByBoxing Press 5/18/2009

Washington, DC based spoiler Demetrius Davis will attempt to continue his recent hot streak against Baltimore’s Corey Cummings May 29 at Du Burns Arena.

Davis, who has a deceptive record at 19-14-5 (7 KO’s), defeated 14-0 Rowland Bryant, 16-6 Brian Norman and battled to a draw with well regarded prospect Tommy Karpency during his last three trips to the squared circle.

Cummings, 16-4 (12 KO’s), has never been knocked out, going the distance with former world champions Montell Griffin, Keith Holmes and perennial contender Chris Henry in notable defeats.

Davis and Cummings will battle it out over ten rounds for local bragging rights as the Maryland State Super Middleweight crown will be on the line. The victor of this much anticipated bout will receive a $500 bonus if the bout ends by knockout.

Preeminent Junior Middleweight prospect James “Keep Em’ Sleepin” Stevenson 8-0 (8 KO’s) will look to continue his impressive streak of knockouts versus durable veteran Manuel Guzman 6-6 (2 KO’s) over eight rounds.

The impressive Stevenson scored a jaw dropping stoppage over unbeaten Dwayne Shelton in his previous bout and will have to be at his best as the iron chinned Guzman of Lancaster, PA has seen the final bell in all of his losses.

The two will battle for Stevenson’s East Coast title and the $500 knockout bonus will also be intact.

Heavyweight prospect Maurice “Freight Train” Byarm 1-0 (1 KO) is set to battle the debuting James Whitson, of Charleston , SC. The DC based Byarm made a major statement in his pro debut, scoring a dominating third round TKO while displaying fearsome punching power in both hands.

Middleweight Justin Blackwell of Baltimore is scheduled to make his pro debut against experienced veteran John “The Baptist” Terry 2-14-3 (1 KO) in a four round Middleweight clash. Terry, of Portsmouth , VA , comes to fight and has battled a plethora of rising talents.

Johnny Dejesus 1-0 (1 KO) of Lancaster, PA, will travel across state lines to take on pro debutant Barry Trotter, of Waldorf, MD over four rounds at middleweight.

Former amateur standout Emmanuel Taylor 1-0 (1 KO), of Edgewood Arsenal, MD and popular Baltimore Cruiserweight prospect Steve Wheeler 1-0 are scheduled to appear in separate four round bouts. Wheeler, who was 28-6 as an amateur, and Taylor both looked sensational during their pro debuts.

Five time world champion/fan favorite Vinny Paz and legendary trainer Kevin Rooney will be on hand for a special meet and greet session with all ticketholders.

Individual tickets are priced at $35, $50 and $75. VIP mini-tables are available for $375 to seat 5. Reserved tables to seat 10 are $500. VIP tables of 10 are available at $750 for second row seating and $1100 for front row.

All VIP ticket holders receive free cocktails and Hor’dourves. Tickets can be ordered by calling 410-675-6900 or 410-499-5361.

The Card will be held at the Du Burns Arena, located at 1301 S. Elwood Ave in Baltimore . Doors open at 6:30 and the opening bell is at 8 p.m. Baltimore Pro Boxing is the promoter.

Headed by former pugilist Jake Smith, Baltimore Pro Boxing has promoted professional and amateur shows during the last 15 years.

  • Errol Spence v Tim Tszyu - June 2026 4/7/2026
The clash between Spence and Tszyu had reportedly been lined up to take place in June. Tim did suffer a cut in his bout against Nurja, which could potentially delay proceedings. I am concerned that Spence has not fought for years now and having no warm up. This may show that he has not much left and cashing in. Tszyu secured a one-sided unanimous decision wi […]

  • Rene Santiago to defend his WBA and WBO junior flyweight belts in Japan 4/2/2026
Rene’s not talked about much. Even here in Puerto Rico he’s not as well known as Xander Zayas or even Oscar Collazo. But he’s got 2 of the 4 belts in the division, and tonight he defends them against Masataka Taniguchi in Japan. Gotta hand it to him. This is his 3rd straight fight in Japan. I admire any fighter who’s willing to go halfway around the world to […]
