Nikita Tszyu vs Oscar Diaz Preview: Unbeaten Clash Headlines Newcastle Card
Newcastle gets another big fight night on Wednesday, May 6, and it’s got that proper No Limit feel to it — young unbeaten fighters, a few risky matchups, and a main event that could tell us a lot more about where someone’s ceiling really is.
At the top of it, Nikita Tszyu is back at home taking on another unbeaten in Oscar Diaz. No soft touches here. You don’t match two undefeated guys unless you’re confident something’s about to give.
Main Event
Nikita Tszyu (11-0-0) vs Oscar Diaz (16-0-0)
Super welterweight – 10 rounds
Tszyu’s been building momentum nicely, and Newcastle has basically become his spot now. He fights with that same aggressive mindset every time — comes forward, breaks people down, doesn’t really overthink it.
But Diaz isn’t coming over for a payday. 16-0-0 isn’t an accident, and from what we’ve seen, he’s confident enough to lean into this moment rather than survive it. That usually makes fights better… and messier.
The interesting bit here is how long Diaz can stay composed. Tszyu tends to drag opponents into a pace they don’t want, and once that happens, it usually unravels quickly. If Diaz can hold his shape and make Tszyu reset, it gets interesting. If not, it could turn into another steady dismantling job.
Feels like a proper test, not just another step.
Co-Main Event
Callum Peters (6-0-0) vs Joeshon James (10-1-2)
Middleweight – 10 rounds
This is a sneaky good fight. Peters is still early in his career at 6-0-0, but throwing him in with someone like James already tells you what the plan is — move him quickly or find out where he’s at.
James has more experience and has been in with better opposition on paper. That alone makes this a real fight, not just a showcase. Peters probably has the upside, but James feels like the kind of opponent who won’t fold easily.
Undercard
Jack Bowen (12-1-0) vs Tonga Tongotongo (11-1-0) – Super middleweight, 10 rounds
Two solid records here. Someone’s momentum is getting checked.
Kirra Ruston (8-0-0) vs Berkay Varol (9-0-0) – Light heavy, 10 rounds
Another unbeaten clash. These are always worth watching early.
Brandon Grach (4-1-0) vs Caleb Tialu (3-6-0) – Heavyweight, 4 rounds
Short fight, but heavyweights don’t need long to change things.
Rahim Mundine (2-0-0) vs Lance McDonald (1-4-1) – Super welterweight
Early-stage development fight for Mundine.
Brent Walton (4-2-0) vs Jayden Vasica (1-1-0) – Welterweight
Could be closer than the records suggest.
Wayne Telepe (3-2-0) vs Benjamin Amos (3-1-0) – Lightweight
Two fighters still figuring things out — usually makes for a scrappy fight.
Kyron Dryden (13-2-0) vs Hunter Ioane (10-13-1) – Welterweight
Dryden has the experience edge, but Ioane’s record doesn’t always tell the full story.
Closing
It’s one of those cards where the main event carries the headline, but there’s enough underneath it to keep you watching from the start. And if Tszyu vs Diaz delivers, this could end up being one of those nights people look back on later.
