Espinoza Boxing: Former World Title Challenger Valdez On Mexican Show

Former world title challenger Alejandro Valdez will make his return to the ring tonight against Genaro Carmago headlining a seven bout action packed card at the Explanada Tecate in Ciudad Obregon, Sonora, Mexico .

The Valdez/Carmago super bantamweight bout is scheduled for ten rounds.

The 25 year old Valdez , 20-3-2 (14KO’s), had been undefeated in his previous seventeen bouts prior to challenging WBC bantamweight title holder Hozumi Hasegawa on October 16th on Tokyo, Japan.

After a flurry of action in which Valdez appeared hurt but still defending himself, the bout was surprisingly stopped by referee Michael Griffin in the second round.

Said manager Frank Espinoza, “At the time we were very upset with the stoppage, but Alex has been in the gym training diligently and is focused on getting another world title shot in the near future. He’s excited to be fighting Carmago on Saturday night.”

Valdez is currently world ranked #11 by both the WBC and the IBF.

A native of Sinaloa, Mexico, Carmago brings a record of 24-6-0 (17KO’s) into the battle with Valdez. On February 6, 2009, he stopped Victor Rodriguez in the sixth round in his hometown to win the Mexican Pacific Coast Super Bantamweight Title.
