Boxing In Germany: Braehmer, Boystov Win In Oberhausen

Former world title challenger Juergen Braehmer retained his European light heavyweight title last night at the Koenig Pilsener Arena in Oberhausen, Germany.

The 30 year old southpaw needed just one round to snuff out the ambition of European Union titlist Antonio Brancalion, 32-7-2 (8), who saw a seven bout win streak evaporate.

Braehmer, 33-2 (27), bounced back from a failed WBO title bid against Hugo Hernan Garay last November to stop Rachid Kanfouah in the fifth to capture the vacant European title in March.

Brancalion had previously never been stopped in his 40 bout career that began in December, 1996.

Hard punching heavyweight hopeful Denis Boytsov, 25-0 (20), stayed perfect by ending the 12 bout win streak of Taras Bidenko, 26-3 (12), via 6th round TKO.

23 year old Russian Boytsov retained his WBA Intercontinental heavyweight title for the first time and is clearly heading toward bigger and better things in the near future.
