Keyshawn Davis Returns Home Looking To Finish The Job Against Nahir Albright
Top Rank heads back to the Scope Arena in Norfolk on Saturday night and the place should be loud long before the main event starts. Norfolk has become Keyshawn Davis territory over the last couple of years and this rematch with Nahir Albright has a bit more edge to it than your average hometown headline fight.
The first meeting ended in strange fashion after a majority decision win for Davis was later overturned, leaving unfinished business between the two rivals. Now they run it back at super lightweight over 12 rounds with Davis looking to move on toward bigger names at 140, while Albright gets another shot at upsetting the plans.
There’s also a solid undercard with unbeaten prospects, a regional title fight and more of the Davis brothers in action. Not a blockbuster card on paper, but definitely one of those Top Rank shows that usually ends up delivering a few entertaining scraps.
Main Event
Keyshawn Davis (14-0-0) faces Nahir Albright (17-2-1) in a 12-round super lightweight main event.
Davis has looked comfortable since moving up to 140. The speed is still there, but he also seems physically stronger and more willing to sit down on shots. You can see why people around boxing are already throwing around names like Devin Haney when they talk about his future.
Still, Albright isn’t just turning up to collect a payday. He already knows he can make Davis uncomfortable in spots because he did it in the first fight. He’s awkward at times, sneaky with counters and doesn’t seem overly bothered by fighting away from home.
The big question is whether Albright can keep Davis from settling into rhythm. Once Davis starts flowing combinations together, he becomes hard to deal with because he mixes speed, timing and accuracy so naturally. He also seems to feed off the Norfolk crowd.
Honestly, this feels like the kind of fight where Davis might start a bit sharp and spiteful. He has spoken all week about unfinished business and he looked like a man eager to erase any debate around the first fight.
Co-Main / Key Fights
Yan Santana (16-0-0) takes on Cristian Cruz Chacon (24-7-2) for the WBO NABO featherweight title over 10 rounds.
Santana has quietly become one of the more interesting featherweight prospects under the Top Rank banner. Tall for the weight, sharp punch selection and he doesn’t rush things. Chacon has far more experience though and has seen plenty of styles. That usually makes for awkward nights if a young fighter loses concentration for even a round or two.
At this stage, Santana looks like the fresher and more explosive fighter, but Chacon has enough experience to test whether the unbeaten record really means something.
Another fight worth keeping an eye on sees Kelvin Davis (15-1-0) face Peter Dobson (17-3-0) in a 10-round welterweight bout.
Dobson is one of those fighters who tends to make prospects work harder than expected. Kelvin Davis has size and decent punch variety, but this is the type of matchup where patience matters more than highlight-reel moments.
Brian Norman Jr (28-1-0) also appears on the card against Josh Wagner (19-2-0) over 10 rounds at welterweight.
Norman Jr keeps building momentum and there’s genuine buzz around him now. Wagner has a respectable record and enough experience to ask questions, but Norman’s confidence seems to be growing every fight.
Full Undercard
Keon Davis (4-0-0) meets Edwine Humaine Junior (9-2-0) in a six-round super welterweight contest. Keon is still early in his development but Top Rank clearly sees something there given the platform he keeps getting.
Dedrick Crocklem (6-0-0) faces Eric Howard (7-4-0) over six rounds at super featherweight. Crocklem has started his career well and Howard should give him rounds if he can survive the early pressure.
Closing Thoughts
Norfolk cards always seem to carry a different atmosphere when Keyshawn Davis headlines, and this rematch with Albright has enough bad blood and unfinished business behind it to feel interesting. Add in Santana, Brian Norman Jr and the rest of the young talent on the card, and this is a pretty solid Saturday night watch on DAZN.
