David Allen and Filip Hrgovic Ready for Business After Heated Doncaster Weigh-In
The talking is nearly over in Doncaster after the fighters hit the scales ahead of Saturday night’s Queensberry Promotions card at the Keepmoat Stadium, live on DAZN.
Main event heavyweights David Allen and Filip Hrgovic both came in around the 248lb mark, while there was plenty of noise elsewhere on the card as unbeaten rivals Louie O’Doherty and Ahmed Hatim exchanged words, and Michael Gomez Jnr and Lee McGregor continued their growing dislike for each other.
David Allen vs Filip Hrgovic
Allen scaled 248.8lbs, while Hrgovic came in slightly lighter at 248.4lbs for their 10-round heavyweight clash.
Hrgovic looked completely unfazed by the atmosphere and brushed aside suggestions that the Doncaster crowd could become a factor.
“I’m ready and let’s get down to business,” said the Croatian. “I’m not bothered by the crowd for this fight. It is just me and him. I deserve this victory and I’m in great shape and you will see tomorrow. Let’s get down to business.”
Allen, unsurprisingly, treated the weigh-in more like a homecoming celebration. The Doncaster man played to the crowd throughout, even doing lunges before stepping onto the scales as the fans roared him on.
“I’m having a great time and buzzing for tomorrow,” said Allen. “I feel in good shape and the weight wasn’t a sacrifice because I’m doing what I love. These guys doing a nine to five are the ones sacrificing.
“I’m living the dream and I plan on the upset. I’m a lucky man.”
Michael Gomez Jnr vs Lee McGregor
There was plenty of tension between these two during the face off.
Gomez Jnr weighed 134.10lbs, while McGregor came in at 134.11lbs for their lightweight clash.
Both men talked throughout the stare down, with Gomez especially animated as security kept a close eye on proceedings.
McGregor believes he is a completely different fighter these days.
“He’s missed the boat because I’m a better fighter now,” said the Scot. “New weight, new trainer and my mental positivity is high. Tomorrow might be the best day of my life.”
Gomez was not in the mood for compliments.
“I can’t wait for the fight,” he fired back. “His last fight was garbage, he looks skinny fat and I’m ready to fight anyone.”
Louie O’Doherty vs Ahmed Hatim
The unbeaten rivals both comfortably made weight for their British and Commonwealth lightweight title clash.
O’Doherty came in at 134.11lbs, while Hatim was slightly lighter at 134.9lbs.
There were verbal exchanges throughout the face off, with Hatim promising an intense fight once the bell rings.
“The fun and games are over and tomorrow night we are going to war,” said Hatim. “He won’t be able to keep up with the pace for 12 rounds.”
Hatim even turned his attention toward O’Doherty’s corner team, warning them: “You need to look after him tomorrow because he’s in trouble.”
O’Doherty remained calm despite Hatim continuing to heckle him after leaving the stage.
“He’s focusing on the wrong things and needs to focus more on the fight,” said O’Doherty. “But I hope he believes in himself because it will make the fight even better.
“Be ready for a fast-paced fight.”
