Keyshawn Davis Dominates Nahir Albright Over 12 Rounds In Norfolk Return
After all the noise from the weigh-in drama, Keyshawn Davis walked into the Scope Arena and completely took over the fight anyway.
Davis spent most of Saturday night picking Nahir Albright apart with speed, timing and cleaner punching, cruising to a wide unanimous decision in front of his hometown crowd in Norfolk. The knockout never came, even though Davis pushed hard for it late, but the result itself never really felt in doubt.
From the opening rounds, Davis looked sharper, faster and far more composed. Albright had moments where he tried to rough things up and force exchanges, but Davis controlled the tempo almost throughout.
Main Event
Keyshawn Davis improved to 15-0-0 after defeating Nahir Albright, now 17-3-1, by unanimous decision over 12 rounds in their super lightweight rematch.
The judges scored it 118-108 twice and 117-109, all in favour of Davis.
Davis boxed with confidence from the start, snapping shots through the guard and mixing up his attacks well to both head and body. Albright stayed tough and kept trying to fire back, but he struggled to deal with Davis once the combinations started flowing.
Round seven brought the strangest moment of the fight when referee Malik Waleed deducted Davis two points for intentionally throwing Albright to the canvas during a clinch. It briefly gave the crowd something to react to, but it barely changed the direction of the fight.
By the championship rounds Davis was openly hunting the stoppage. He started sitting down harder on his shots and had Albright covering up more often, but Albright showed durability and managed to hear the final bell.
No surprise result in the end. Davis looked levels above for long stretches and honestly seemed frustrated he couldn’t get the finish.
Co-Main / Key Fights
Yan Santana stayed unbeaten and claimed the WBO NABO featherweight title with a unanimous decision win over Cristian Cruz Chacon.
Santana improved to 17-0-0 while Chacon dropped to 24-8-2. The scorecards came back 96-94, 98-92 and 97-93 after 10 rounds.
Chacon made Santana work much harder than expected in spots and kept trying to drag the fight into close-range exchanges, but Santana’s cleaner work and sharper timing carried him through the tougher rounds.
Non-Title Undercard
Kelvin Davis edged out Peter Dobson by split decision over 10 rounds at welterweight.
Davis moved to 16-1-0 while Dobson slipped to 17-4-0. One judge surprisingly had it 98-92 for Dobson, but the other two cards of 99-91 and 97-93 secured the win for Davis.
Brian Norman Jr made a statement after Friday’s weigh-in issues, stopping Josh Wagner in round two.
Norman Jr improved to 29-1-0 while Wagner fell to 19-3-0. Wagner hit the canvas twice in the second before the referee waved it off at 1:24. Quick and destructive from Norman once he got rolling.
Keon Davis cruised to a six-round unanimous decision over Edwine Humaine Junior.
Davis improved to 5-0-0 while Humaine Junior dropped to 9-3-0. All three judges scored the super welterweight contest 60-54.
Dedrick Crocklem also remained unbeaten, moving to 7-0-0 with a unanimous decision victory over Eric Howard.
Howard dropped to 7-5-0 after all three judges scored the six-round super featherweight bout 60-54.
Closing Thoughts
The Norfolk crowd came for a Keyshawn Davis showcase and that’s pretty much what they got. The knockout didn’t arrive, but over 12 rounds Davis completely controlled Albright and kept building momentum at 140 pounds.
